....then Felix Sturm is your man. That guy has gotten more mileage out of his 12 round LOSS to small fat Oscar like 10 years ago than most fighters get out of a string of wins. Of course, he probably won..{never fight in America and all that but...} He has fought a steady stream of bums and hasbeens since, and even managed to get KTFO by Castillejo, who was like 39 or something at the time. The two best names on his record....he has lost to. Oscar and Castillejo. He refused to unify vs Abraham in a fight that would have earned both men MILLIONS of EUROS...EACH. Instead he prefers to fight.....Koji Sato. And draw with people like....Randy Griffin. He never fucking stops anyone. Hell at least Ottke fought a lot of big names, and fucked up guys like Joe Gatti and Mundine. He didn't always fight the best but he didn't get fucked up by anyone either. And he beat Brewer, Tate, and some other useful fighters. If you hate Ottke you're gonna have to really hate this guy. Spurm is happy to milk the scene, fighting 12 rounders versus complete unknowns. He is such a non-threat to the rest of the boxing world that even Mexboxing are happy to write on the guy. They love the guy cos they know he will never leave Germany and threaten to nix a superfight ever again.. If you want to hate on a stay-at-home Euro, then this guy is your man. SPURM. FELIX SPURM.
@ Neil: How many Oscar fights you seen live? I had the good fortune to watch DLH vs Quartey live. @Mitchell: Consensus unofficial opinion has Spurm winning the fight. Oscar looked small fat and beaten.
I was wondering why the most you'd go in that direction was "probably"...and you don't have to give me the consensus unofficial opinion, you can state your official opinion.
Well.....Hopkins smiled throughout, safe in the knowledge of what was unfolding. Sturm is a solid, pure boxer, with no power, a less than granite chin and a matchmaking history that makes Amir Khan look like a combination of John Rusnak and Nick Gleeson by comparison.
Spurm would never face him. He wouldn't face Arthur or Alex Abraham, he only fought Castillejo cos Castillejo was an ancient 154lbr that Spurm thought was finished.
In fairness to Spurm, Mundine is the one fighter he is not at all obliged to travel for. Mundine is not so much the Anti-Spurm as he is the Antipodean Spurm. And Mundane has bad memories of Germany. It took a while for them to come back, but once they did, they were all bad. ::
You will be knifed in a dark alley by Alex and his Kefir loving buddies. You will stink of lamb and mint sauce and cognac and leather jackets by the time they are through with you. Then they will fling you on the back of a cheap Mercedes, slap you with their Orthodox bibles and invite you to join their gang.
Alex will then ask you if you have a cure for male pattern baldness. :scared2: He will then ask you if you want to buy a used Pyramid. Quite the man, our Alex.
Sturm is a world professional boxing champion, a good kid, and a former Olympian, you can't accomplish much more in boxing than that. Anyone that feels the need to hate upon him via the frustrations and failures of their own lives, really needs to get in the ring with him if they REALLY want to prove themselves if their hatred towards him really means that much. Other than that, I don't understand the hostility of this thread as Sturm is a pretty darn good fighter. Karl
Yes, he is a pretty good fighter, but you can certainly do more than he's ever done. Irish is ppretty right in pointing out the embarrassment of the defeat to Castillejo. I do think he beat De La Hoya, but that was at Middleweight, & it was six years ago.
Castillejo was a 154lbr who dropped decisions to Oscar and Vargas, although he broke Vargas jaw and would have won if it were a 12 rounder. Sturm picked up on this and invited Castillejo to try him at 160, and got his ass knocked out. He won a safety-first rematch against a by-then ancient Castillejo.
