Just finished re-watching the fight they had at 154 and man Quartey was robbed something serious. There is NO WAY Forrest won that fight. Anyway, for me the judges wouldn't be needed had this fight took place when both were young prime fighters. I think Quartey would have stopped Forrest mid to late rounds in a rather one sided fight.
I don't know about a mid round stoppage. I mean, PRIME Ike couldn't stop Oba Carr. I could see him stopping Forrest late, but maybe not. HOWEVER, Ike was a better fighter than Forrest and would win as long as they hired judges who can actually see, which wasn't the case when they fought. And yes, Ike-Forrest was one of the worst robberies of the last 15 years. I can only think of two that might have been worse - Matthysse-Alexander (BLATANT robbery), and Lara-Tall Paul (another blatant robbery).
Matthysse twice got a raw deal with the judges against Alexander and Judah. Yeah Lara fought brilliantly against Tall Paul. Wish he would be a busier fighter and not just move so much but this was bad. As for Quartey-Forrest, yes I just feel Bazooka was a better fighter. Forrest's jab couldn't match up to Quartey's. And Ike would be able to catch him inside with those little counter shots, especially that chopping right hand. He was also MUCH STRONGER than Vernon and was able to back him up, unlike Mosley who was unable to back up Forrest. Quartey-Mosley would have been an excellent fight too.
Mattyhsse essentially blew the Judah fight. He had Zab ready to go in the 11th, and failed to close the show. He still won, but he let Zab steal the fight. The Alexander fight on the other hand was a HORRIBLE robbery! Outta the 10 rounds, Alexander only won 2-3.
Surely you saw the fight they had at 154 when both were past it. Quartey won it rather easily IMO, aside from that 3rd round scare where Forrest had Quartey briefly stunned. Age aside, Quartey is just a better fighter. Better jab and physically stronger. Whereas Mosley couldn't back Forrest up, Quartey was able to do it CONSISTENTLY. I see no reason why a younger, hungrier, sharper, and more in shape Quartey doesn't fuck Forrest up. Any version of Vernon.
Forrest showed his durability in TWO fights with Mosley. That was PRIME Mosley at the top of his game. Shane hit a little harder than Quartey and was even more ferocious (quartey was the better fighter though). If Shane couldn't stop Forrest, no way does Quartey do it.
LMAO @ Quartey being a better fighter than Mosley. Your Shane hate knows no bounds. Mosley was a better fighter than Quartey, ESPECIALLY if we're talking P4P. But Quartey's style was better for beating Forrest.
