Really, some of you should be ashamed of yourselves. I don't understand what the blind hate is for this fighter - check that, this warrior - who is everything a fighter should be. I sincerely hope that those who ridiculed him as an average bloke give him the respect he deserves. No excuses. Give the man his just due.

I tell ya, I've been absolutely disgusted with the way Margarito has been regarded on this site. A man who held on to his crown for ten years, a man who called out the best and fought the best available. A humble fighter who just wanted an opportunity.

But hey, if you thought Margarito was gonna lose, fine. I even excused those who thought he sucked - most of them started watching Margarito a couple years ago and barely remember anything else. I was just about to say, this is about more than just a wrong pick, it's like saying "Holyfield has average heart, about on Michael Grant level". Ludicrous statements with zero justification.

 

Margarito fans, stop acting like there's never reason to criticize Antonio or his handlers. Think about it, he just won his first fight after how many years of claiming he was this and that? The other biggest fight he had recently, he lost (Williams). So there was nothing wrong with saying he was getting overrated, now the kid finally deserves the praise so let's give it. Let's see if he can keep it up.

 

Don't go nuts. He did this against Cotto is imo was a very protected fighter. Margarito is not the non-stop attacker he is made out to be. Paul Williams kept him in check.. I am a fan of Margarito but he was battering a guy who was just overrated, especially at welterweight. Librado Andrade is what people think Margarito is. Margarito is the first true legit welter and guy his size cotto ever fought which is why he got dominated.

 

What does this have to do with the thread?

 

So he's fought Williams and Cotto...arguably the two best welterweights before last night...and he knocked out one and lost a very close decision to the other (that 7-5 on my card, in which he came on strongly at the end).

He's also beaten two top 5-10 welterweights in Cintron (twice) and Clottey.

So what was the reason to criticize him?

Because he's open to fighting all welterweights and actually proving in the ring how good or bad he is?

Now proceed to trash Mex since well, even if most saw (keep seeing) Margarito as a looping brawler with mediocre technique and an awful face, well it's plain obvious the guy has a heart of a lion and lots of determination.

Alright Mex, I'll answer for you:

Congrats to Marge, he showed lots of guts and determination last night. I still wish Cotto would have gone to the body more. Also, did anybody think Marge should have at least been warned or had a point taken away for hitting Cotto while he was down?

And Kenneth, I still don't see the guts he showed in the second Santos fight. Santos calmly outboxed him (note: I didn't see the fight) and your hero folded at the least sign of trouble, like he did against Williams early on. He only found guts in the later rounds.

Exactly. I don´t think anybody needs to justify that he picked Cotto to win. It´s just a prediction. It´s just the load of crap, some people have talked about Margarito.

 

In fairness, mex never holds back with his opinions, its rarely less than all or none with respect to his favorite or hated fighters. I'm sure he'll be around. Some of this crow feeding reminds me of attraction post witter-harris. You're setting yourself up for some major crow serving Kenneth once Jones falls short in November or that mediocrity Bradley is exposed. :kidcool:

This is not about calling a fight wrong. Sh*t, everyone does it...A LOT. This is about going beyond the usual BS to make a point. This is about daring to tell other people that Margarito would fold against a REAL fighter, that he had average guts/determination. This is about telling me Margarito showed no guts in the second Santos fight when he walked through absolute FIRE to turn the fight around--in his opponent's hometown, no less! Basically, this is about letting your hate for a fighter go beyond your common sense. Unless you have no common sense.
