The whole Diaz going to school bit! Ok we get it, he has a busy life, and is a full time student. Who gives a fuck.... its been done to DEATH showing this muthafucka in school, talking about his ambition to go law school, ect. Its similar to how they overdue hyping Hatton from the angle "he's just an everyday guy". We get it we get it! Diaz is a good school boy, Hatton is just an average Joe. All that matters is that they've both been exposed in the last few months!:bears:
Well, U Gotta ADMIT it's a Pretty NOVEL Concept, Brother X:dunno: ... There's a SMALL List of Former World Champions that EVER Went to College(Bonecrusher Smith, the Klits, etc.), Nevermind Attending College WHILE They were Champion... & it Shows a POSITIVE Side of Boxing, which is NEVER a Bad Thing.... REED
I never said it wasnt positive. I just think they talk about it to the point where it gets annoying at times.
I totally agree with those 2 points, it's getting EXTREMELY boring, the same fucking thing over and over again, Hatton the local lad, and Diaz the schoolboy. It's tedious. I totally disagree that Hatton was exposed though. He was up against the P4P #1, he did his best, but just wasn't good enough. He would have been exposed if that had happened against someone like Campbell, not Floyd.
Also, REED would DISagree about Diaz Being "Exposed" Last Night...He CLEARLY LOST the Fight, but it Wasn't the Type of Loss that COULDN'T B Reversed Down the Road.... Juan was just UNABLE to Cope w/or ADJUST to the Shady Tactics of his More Experienced Opponent...He'll B a BETTER Fighter after what he Endured Last Night... If REED were Handling Juan Diaz, he'd Let the Cut FULLY Heal then Pursue an IMMEDIATE RE.... REED
It's almost as annoying as those dummies that thinks Jones is a great fighter when a 3-years retired Trinidad took him 12. Cupey
I think it's a good thing. He's setting an example that other young boxers would be wise to follow, ESPECIALLY the young impressionable kids who are thinking of going into the sport or are starting out. Yes, we all know it by now, and some people might feel like they are getting beaten over the head with the message...but then again there might be first time young kids watching fights with their arents or whatever and they hear about this guy not only boxing but also going to school. That's a positive message and something to be applauded even if it gets repetitious. The more kids who get encouraged to go to school and stay in school, the better. And a tough, gutsy athlete with the discipline to box AND go to school is something for kids to emulate. Lord knows, kids can use more positive influences nowadays.
I didnt mean he was "exposed" in the sense that he's a fraud. But I think its clear his lack of defense, and skill were exposed.
Sometimes there isn't much else of a story to be had. It does get boring hearing the same shit over and over, but it is better than hearing that he breaks into people's houses and sexually assaults them.
dsimon writes: Wrong X we need more expose's of this nature!! For all the fighters! For example Zab Judah..... camera cuts to a picture of Judah with a stupid look on his face announcer: "Zab is an enterprising business man when not in the ring" we see the clip of Zab and his crew playing craps in Florida.... Close up as an explains how to protect his investments while his crew is shown hammering the crap dealer's face. :blobbox:
I agree. They should show Mayweather throwing money around in strip clubs and slapping around one of his baby's momma's in the parking lot instead.
I think some of you are missing the point. I don't think X is saying it's queer that Diaz is a schoolboy, I think he is just saying enough is enough. How many times do they have to bang on about Diaz being a college boy, and Hatton being a down to earth local lad? We got the idea.......... years ago.
I agree with the point that HBO tends to rehammer the same story over and over again. It's just like when Ouma fights you can expect to hear and probably see a short clip of his life when he was with the african gangs killing people. Reed I'd never give my fighter an immediate rematch after a loss. The last guy I can recall coming back to win an impressive immediate rematch was Lennox Lewis. I'm always in favor of confidence building first. It's nice that Juan is in law school but seriously, if he really plans on being a lawyer he should probably retire now, especially the way he fights. He probably loses 3 chapter's of law per fight. I mean really, who's going to let an ex boxer represent them? Juan is going to be so fucked up when his career is over people who don't know he was a boxer will be wondering how the fuck a retard got a law degree.
I tend to agree, though part of the reason it's old is because it's been repeated by broadcasters on just about every channel he's ever fought on. The vignette seemed a bit much, but it was probably intended more for newer viewers and the women stuck watching the fight. :: The repetitiveness of the story is sorta similar to the Nate Campbell story that Lampley brought up (which he seems to do during just about every Campbell fight on HBO/PPV). I remember Briggs getting pissed at Merchant when he kept bringing up his difficult past. Some of these broadcasters really need to change the script on certain fighters.
And what people are saying is....we got the idea of Floyd having money, bling and an entourage....years ago. We got the idea of Mike Tyson being an unstable beast - or being a poor manipulated soul, take your pick - .....years ago. We got the idea of Corrales being a wife-beater; Tapia doing mad drugs; Ouma being a child-soldier; Vassily being trained with dogs; Roy having a bad father and training like chickens.....all years ago. And so on. They all come up almost every time those fighters are written about, commentated on or talked about. Diaz' story, for a change, happens to be positive. It's also his angle - so you're going to keep hearing about it. Better that than the other alternatives. What I get tired of - and what gets TRULY boring - is hearing about how screwed up boxers' lives tend to be. THAT is boring....and tragic. Peace.
