I'd say his worst problem is failing to overcome the gap in generations between he and his squad. But I don't know, every fight - particularly Estrada and Yanez - he was giving decent advice in the corner, only for the figthers to do something different. Not sure what went into preparation, but it seems like the Americans are four years behind in terms of strategy. Most are/were fighting a style that used to work (and against which they could never solved, and would often complain about after turning pro), so if they're being taught that in training camp, then it's on Campbell. If it's due to what they're being taught by their own coaches, it's a different story. All I can really co-sign on at the moment is that this is undoubtedly the worst US squad in at least my lifetime.
he didn't appear to be giving any great strategic advice to yanez. then again sometimes things are simple, if you are a lardass then stop stuffing your face, if you aren't punching enough then open the fuck up.
As always, coaches get the blame for subjects that simply aren't good enough to follow any kind of gameplan successfully.
I argue along this them often, but Campbell hasn't shown the ability to do anything right so far. I mean, I would have gotten kicked out of the Warren bout because I would have been screaming "You are down one fucking point, Rau'sheeeee! You are down, you dumb shit!" and so on until the ref says 'goodbye, coach.'
Our olymipc system sucks. We need to have guys specifically training for this. Not amatures, but specific fighters for this purpose.
Thats why i am saying we need to have guys that just train in this type of scoring. Dont get people that aspire to be real boxers.
The best am fighters are the best bets to be the best pro fighters. Why would you think that the US fighters haven't been training specifically for the AM style of fighting? You aren't making sense.
I actually liked his method of keeping all the fighters together to train for the olympic style, but he obviously didn't execute it that well. I can see how the players rebelled, but Campbell should have loosen up a little on it. He also should have had better instructors too. That goes without saying but I had to say it.
