Depends. Who's the quality fighter you're talking about? Margarito is a beast, the same beast Floyd wanted nothing to do with.::
This is the most credit I've ever seen a man get for beating a fighter that was not champion of his own division and whose best win came againtst a man in a similiar situation as the man he just lost to. Not saying that the credit isn't deserved, but there is BEYOND a double-standard going on here, and I don't think it helps the sport. *back to this topic* I think Cintron is still the same fighter, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. He'll still get jitters when he percieves a huge fight on his horizon, but he is also just as capable of turning that nervous energy into a thunderous KO. He knows how to set up his own shots; the question is more of what he does with the incoming. I think he would have a performance similar to what Victoriano Sosa put in against Mayweather; I think he'd still lose fairly lopsided agains Margarito; he'd probably have his moments againt Williams but lose a decision (and heaven help him if he runs out of gas againt the Punisher :crafty:) but I think a Cotto bout is a goldmine because it's easy to sell, but Cotto's relative experience would see him through. So ultimately, I say he's a mid-range contender type who has a puncher's chance to break through on any given night, which is not bad a loaded division.
Kermit has been boxing now and letting KOs come rather than just bumrush people and hope he lands the big one. Plus he has the confidence of being a champion, AND the experience of a loss. Is he still the same guy? No. Does that mean now he has ready for the top of the division? Probably not.
"I think the Margarito loss should be erased" -Cintron :: No it shouldn't be erased, learn from your loss geez man
My apologies for being vague. Williams beats Margarito, he gets decent praise. Margarito wasn't the champion at 147 but was still getting decent hype. Margarito beats Cintron, not a big deal, and still was his best win. I'm happy that my favorite fighter got a good win, but I don't want it overblown, and I certainly don't think Cintron has done anything to warrant huge mention. Yet these guys are generally better accepted than Mayweather Jr because PBF is a dick, despite PBF accomplishing more in the division from a championship standpoint. Just calling a spade a spade.
Indeed, he looked exceptional, one thing I was sure of was that due to the KO percentage of both, it wasn't going the distance
I like Kermit. He won't ever be a p4p champ by any means but he fights with heart. The thought of him and Paul Williams gettin it on is a cool thought. I do disagree with BNB on the fight though. I don't see anyway it going the distance. I think it would be very competitive and fan friendly ending in a huge KO. Possibly FOTY candidate.:cheer:
I alway's liked Kermit style, but felt he had some bitch in him and he showed it vs Margarito (as I expected). Expected to lose vs David Estrada for the same reason but he showed heart in that fight as they were many spot in it where he could have crumbled. I still think he would lose to Margarito but I'm pretty much sure that he won't crumble again like he did in the 1st match. Cintron, at WW, is a very hard match for anyone.
A bum that gave Paul Williams hell and it took him 10 rounds to stop him and never once knocked him off his feet. It was an impressive win for Cintron.
Kermit did a lot better against Margarito than people give him credit for. He never stopped trying and he showed heart.
