Why would he need an excuse? He won the fight. Also this was posted by the UFC(briefly), not Aldo's camp.

    Learn to make sense.

unless he's super weight drained, i expect him to destroy florian in 3 rounds. not sure how he'd fare against wrestlers like edgar and maynard since his takedown defense isn't that much better or worse than penn's. but unlike penn, he knows how to utilize his talent to its full extent.

We are on a miracle roll where no fighters are dying in the ring so I guess we are better off leaving things alone...

And I know that mma is relatively safe when it comes to death fights, although I don't see how...

But I sure hate the day-before weigh ins. It is sanctioned cheating. There's no way to really fix the problem, either. Limiting the amount of weight a fighter can put on between the weigh-in and the fight makes even less sense if you acknowledge that the point of day-before weigh ins is the safety of the fighters.

In my perfect world, fighters would weigh in no more than 30 minutes before they stepped into the ring, they would lose a sizable amount of their purse if they were overweight, and the fight would not be permitted to go on if the fighter was too much over the limit.

Then they would fight dehydrated and would be at higher risk of dying.

Fighters don't take sustained beatings to the head in cage fighting like they do in boxing.

Sure, that's the argument, but the counter is that they wouldn't be cutting as much weight because it wouldn't be beneficial. Fighters would be better off fighting at their more natural, hydrated weight.

I'm guessing that there is a danger zone where cutting weight benefits some fighters and not others...perhaps several hours before the fighter steps into the ring. Night before weigh ins...it benefits pretty much everyone to cut weight; 30 minute before weigh ins...it benefits pretty much no one to cut weight.

This seems like a possible reason, but there are enough early round deaths in boxing that something else is likely going on.
