There are so many good match ups to made in boxing if promoters got there asses in gear.

who would win out these two, i would have to go for kirklands power over paul's skill

I think Paul Williams needs to fight at 160, if not 168. I bet with the added strength and durability he'd find at 168, he could be more effective.

Williams is one of the dumbest fighters to come around since Chico Coralles. That comparison fits so well because I can't think of 2 other fighters who preferred to sit on their skills and advantages and just swing for the fences.

So based on Paul's ring idiotness and his seemingly fragile chin I would give this one to Kirkland.

Whoever has had the most recent early round knockout loss and hasn't had a spectacular knockout win since has no chance in this fight.

Williams must be still coming to reality after that vicious KO.

I'd like to see Williams in there with someone who isn't a fast southpaw before throwing him on the scrap heap... but he didn't look good against Lara.

The bottom line is Paul is done. He fought with such a stupid style that he cut his shelf life in half.

That's right. Paul Williams is therefore crap, and Kirkland is hall of fame bound. I think it's pretty clear the way things are.

For the record, I think... no, scratch that, I KNOW that Kirkland is garbage

But against a guy who is looking every bit like a man in decline, he's favored to win

Kirkland isnt an elite fighter by any stretch, but you're just coming across as a hater at this point.

I wouldnt even pick a prime Williams over Kirkland with alot of certainty. Paul is the dumbest fighter in the history of boxing.

He certainly had a better chin than Kirkland, but given how brawl happy he is, and how PATHETIC his defense is, I wouldnt count out Kirkland against any Williams.

I dont understand the hate though. NOBODY is calling Kirkland a great fighter. Some people think he can beat Ginger, but thats acceptable because Ginger is far from great himself.

You don't get it do you...

It's not that they "prefer" to fight that way..that's how they fight. They don't know any other way.

Same way people think Shane mosley should have boxed more because of his handspeed and fancy moves...he couldn't fight any other way.

I pray Kirkland gets a shot at ginger and beats him. At the same time, I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch with Angulo, but if it's up to Kirkland, he should opt to face ginger or some other top 154 pounder before he rematches Angulo.

Getting KO'd by THAT shot does not mean he has a weak chin. His chin is pretty solid.

Chico wasnt a dumb fighter. He had skills he sometimes neglected, but thats because he sometimes fell in love with his power. But he had enough power to fall in love with.

Williams, unlike Corrales, never had that equalizer. He never even had real skills. Williams best attributes were his toughness, reach, workrate, and stamina. Along with decent, but not anything special handspeed.

But he's always had shitty D, has always lacked technical skill, and has always been dumb as a brick.

Corrales was a considerably more talented fighter than Fall Paul.

Chico was a dumb fighter...He was talented and hit like a mule but he was a dumb fighter. He constantly ran into shots didn't move his head or keep his hands up. Even when he won the title against Garcia he took so much unnecessary punishment it was unbelievable. he was too stupid to realize his style was flawed and needed work.

Paul Williams would have landed at will on Kirkland at best peak and stopped him

Wow, what a different a fight makes. Last week, a total of 3 or 4 posters gave Kirkland a shot at beating Angulo, or even lasting very many rounds. Now all of a sudden he's knocking Paul Williams out cold.

No doubt Williams is on the decline... just not sure I have Kirkland yet running the tables at 154. I was dead wrong last week, but not as eager as others to jump the gun on his future prospects.

Paul is a guy who likes to stand in the pocket and slug, he just got KO'd by 1 punch lately and hasn't looked very impressive in his last fight so why wouldn't people pick Kirkland to stop him? We realize Kirkland isn't that good but at this point he might actually have the better chin which is probably the deciding factor in this fight.

This isn't just about Kirkland's last fight, it's also about Paul's last couple. It's also about the fact that Paul is going to fight the kind of fight taylor made to give Kirkland a chance to win. Because Paul is stupid.

I think it'd have been a competitive, brutal war with a prime Williams winning out. You're making it seem like Williams would have blown Kirkland out, which I don't believe he would have.

Kirkland has awful defense... hideous defense... Williams throws punches quickly and from odd positions in combination... Far better fighters than Kirkland had difficulty avoiding his shots... It is like since the KO to Martinez, Williams has been re-written as this untested bum who got exposed, which is total bullshit... he's a fucking far superior fighter to Kirkland, who got blasted out by a feather-fisted tomato can, for fuck's sake.

Who's making shit up? Angulo dropped Kirkland and then gassed himself going for the kill... Guy was basically dead on his feet after the first round and it still took this incredible offensive machine :wack: 5 more rounds to get rid of him... Paul Williams may not be a good defensive fighter, but he's a far cry better than an exhausted slugger who was slow-as-hell to begin with ... that, coupled with his great height, his busy offense and quick hands makes him a taller order than Kirkland has ever shown any indication of being able to deal with... He would land A SHITLOAD on Kirkland and Kirkland has a lousy chin so Paul's lack of one-shot power wouldn't matter, he'd still knock the guy out... RIght now, with Williams basically used up, it's a 50/50 fight... At his peak, it's a no-brainer... Kirkland is not in that class at all, not one bit.

Williams game is volume, mate i dont think he has Tommy Hearns (or even Forrest) type skill/elusiveness or authoritative punching to fall back on in terms of using his range, just the ability to throw, throw, throw.

You have to wonder how much that had to go with lack of Wolfe.

There's just no way, no way, that the absence of a person and their methods could have had such an effect on the guys ability to take punches from a total non-puncher.

Not that soon in the fight. If he got his ass kicked consistently over 10 rounds, then maybe.

Its simple: he lacks the big, one-punch KO power and he lacks a solid chin. At his very very best, he's a smallish, well-conditioned guy with questionable core resistance and average, decent power.
