    Toney suspended for steroids!
    By Karl Freitag
The California State Athletic Commission has levied one year suspensions on James "Lights Out" Toney and Danny Batchelder, who fought May 24 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Toney has been suspended for testing positive for Boldenone Metabolite and Stanozolol Metabolite. He has been fined $2,500 and the suspension period runs from the conclusion of the bout until the end of his licensing year which is May 22, 2008. Batchelder tested positive for Oxandrolone, Stanozolol Metabolite, and an elevated T/E Ratio and has also been fined $2,500 and suspended through the end of his licensing year which is May 22, 2008.

A suspended fighter can't be in the top 10. Toney is thru after this. Finished. Goodbye.

Why is it worse being a doper in the pros than in amateurs? The pros box for the money, but amateurs are supposed to be these squeaky-clean guys, boxing for higher ideals and shit. Obviously, Quitko's doping is much worse.....Plus, Toney's opponent was also doping, whereas Quitko's opponents didn't, which means Quitkos had an unfair advantage over their opponents.

OMG!! I didn't know Ruiz doped!!

Now....it is impossible to say that Ruiz has a better resume..now that we know Ruiz was doping!!!

Ruiz had an unfair advantage over his opponents.

    Ruiz resume is trashed.

    Toney is an idiot.

They should've been suspended that night anyway for putting on such a terrible display of boxing. It was even worse than Roy Jones-Eric Harding and Zab Judah-Junior Witter.

Not for nothing, but when BOTH guys test positive for steroids, I tend to believe there's a flaw in the test. To this day, I still wonder if both Roy and Hall were roided for their fight, or if it was merely a glitch.

Looking at Toney and Batchelder, neither appear to be the poster boys for Roids

I was going to post the same thing...

Two guys testing positive is highly unlikely.

I find it humorus that Shannan Briggs has yet to test positive and yet Toney gets dinged twice. In both cases, he was in the worst shape of his career.

Yeah but the tests showed up different roids, not just a blanket general fail. This is the second time James has failed too....and for Stanozolol aswell. Stan helps to cut weight. James has always liked to dump weight before a fight.

well then one of two things:

    1) if he's in that shape on fight night, then he must be a complete lardass before training camp

    or

    2) he needs to sue that company, because the shit ain't working.

Those were always Toneys arguments. But steroids were never "body in a bottle".....they have specific intangible benefits, as well as less than obvious tangible benefits. For me, the bottom line is James out-of-training weight issues {well documented by now} his steroid injuries {muscle tears} his need to cut weight {perennia} his "previous" {the Ruiz fight}.......its all a bit too much to be believing James.

As it happens, he's innocent until otherwise is shown...but after this he is positively THRU as a prize fighter.

    Thats mean.Briggs has balls.

That said, it reminds of me of an old joke in RIng Magazine.

Briggs and Naseem Hamed were shaking hands and looking at the camera.

Hamed Says: Hey Shannon, why don't you cut off your dreads and move down to Cruiser.

Briggs says: Hamed, why don't you cut off your ears and drop down to fly

I disagree for one reason, I think Toney was in the best shape I've seen him in a while. It was the first time he was sub 230 since the Booker fight, and he looked like he'd gotten into better shape.

It didn't help his performance because he's used up, but I think the more likely scenario is he's simply done training seriously and looking to cut corners - even if it means he might get caught (multiple times).

He's basically finished as a fighter, anyways, and I think the suspension is actually a blessing for him.

toney was pretty ripped for the ruiz fight actually. in fact, at heavy, it was the only time he didn't look like a slob.

briggs is a steroid freak - it's ridiculous how fucking huge he's gotten.

    You really think so?

I thought he looked like he had a lot of extra weight around his waist for that fight and looked probably the worst he had since moving up permanently after the Jirov fight. He looked far better, to me, for the Holyfield fight.

I thought he looked more "ripped" for the Booker fight...as did some others, which led to some speculation given some of his injuries.

i'llhave to watch again. i do remember thinkin he seemed in decent shape for the holy fight, but i remember not being surprised at all to hear he tested positive following the ruiz fight. what a shame because he schooled ruiz perfectly and put more hurt on him than even rjj had.

You might have your fights mixed up. The Ruiz fight was the infamous ass-crack fight  ... Toney was a slob that night and, if I'm not mistaken, at a career-heaviest at the time. He was muscular (and to this day I still believe roided) for the Booker fight.

Toney was fat for the Ruiz fight but looked muscular for the Booker fight.
