At first I thought this was Kamala talking, but then realized it was Toney...

Like I've said, Toney is way too overconfident. He thinks all he has to do is show up, hit Couture in the chin, and go home.

He's gonna find out he's bitten off a lot more than he can chew.

Given that this WON'T B a Loooooooooong, Hard Fight, Toney's Conditioning ISN'T as Much of a Factor...He's Banking on Hitting Couture in the Mouth & Stopping him EARLY & Couture is Banking on Taking Toney to the Ground & Finishing him EARLY...

REED Doesn't See this Going Past Round 1, Regardless WHO wins...

Couture SHOULD B Favored, Since this is Taking Place in HIS Domain, but it's NOT as if the Fight will BEGIN on the Ground...As Looooooooong as they're STANDING, Toney's Got a GOOD Chance...

He may have a chance, but it's not a good one.

I see Toney getting taken down quick and submitted pretty easily. Then complaining like Tank Abbott used to in the old days every time he lost that Couture is a 'pussy' because he didn't stand and trade with him.

If Couture is DUMB/ARROGANT Enough to Keep the Fight STANDING, just to Prove a Point, Toney's Got a GREAT Chance...

I just don't see Couture doing that. For one, he's been around a long time, he's not some emotional kid who will get baited into a stand up battle.

And second, Couture knows he's not a big puncher, even by MMA standards. He only has 7 KO's in 28 fights. He's not gonna go out there and try to make the fight a war when he knows that's not his strength.

And finally, Couture, while no longer a title threat, is one of the faces of MMA. He's gonna want to defend his sport and prove that boxers can't just walk into the octogon and beat an MMA fighter. I'm sure he's taking this fight 100% seriously, and knows that if he loses it will be 100 times more embarrasing for him then the loss to Mercer was to Tim Sylvia.

Sylvia came in out of shape and overconfident against a huge puncher in a fight that nobody saw. Couture knows that everyone will see this fight, both boxing and MMA fans. I would be shocked if as fight night nears, outlets like ESPN and sports radio don't start talking about this fight. You can guarantee the highlights will be shown on SportsCenter. He's not going to want to embarrass himself, and more importantly, he's not gonna want to embarrass MMA and the UFC.

I think Couture is really trying to make a point that there is more to fighting MMA then just throwing punches. I doubt he will engage Toney in the only way Toney has a chance.

I'm a little disappointed that Toney isn't in better shape. The fact that this fight is at a catchweight of 225 means Toney didn't have to do anything to make weight. I hope he doesn't think Couture will have difficulty taking down a 225 pound opponent.

Couture trying to take Toney down will only play into James' hands. He's a gold belt wrestler.

How so? Seriously, James Toney is a multi division boxing champion regarding as one of the best fighters of his generation. It's not like he's a guy walking in off the street. Toney already has an important MMA skill.

I think MMA's credibility would be more hurt by a guy like Kimbo beating Couture. A guy with no formal combat sport experience at all would be a bit laughable. Toney has a shit load of formal experience.

Personally, being a huge boxing fan, I wish boxers could make the transition to MMA as easily as wrestlers. I think it would help the stand up evolve more quickly.

World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye has been called out by James Toney. Toney, who fights Randy Couture in an Ultimate Fighting Championship match on Aug. 28 in Boston, has said he plans to knock out Couture and then to go after Haye.

But Haye, who is a big UFC fan and has trained in mixed martial arts, laughs off Toney’s threats. He doesn’t believe Toney’s going to be able to fight him after he gets pummeled by Couture, though he has mad respect for Toney’s boxing skill and record.

“James Toney is the purest of the pure at boxing,” Haye said. “He is so brilliant at boxing and his skills are so ingrained in him that he’s been an elite level fighter, in shape or not in shape, his skills alone put him on another level as a boxer.

Couture is a former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion who is a decorated wrestler. Haye believes Couture will take Toney down quickly and easily and pummel him on the ground.

“Six months of training isn’t going to be enough,” Haye said. “As a UFC fan, I know two or three years wouldn’t be enough. How many times has Toney sprawled in his life? 500? How many leg kicks has he taken in his life? 300? How many Kimura attempts has he defended? 140? Even if he’s done double that amount, he wouldn’t have nearly the experience needed to win a UFC fight.”

Haye said Toney would be best off if he lands his punches early, because if he’s not finished after grappling with Couture on the ground, he’s going to be surprised by how beaten up and heavy his arms feel.

“I know from training in MMA myself that the wrestling aspect ruins your punching power,” Haye said. “After a minute of grappling, your arms, back and shoulders fill with blood and even if you then find space to throw punches, your power is suddenly crap.

“And I hit a lot harder and I’m so much faster than James, and I couldn’t land a punch on fighters when all they wanted to do was take me down to the ground. James is a much more static fighter than I am, and is going to get thrown on his back immediately by Randy. I admire Toney’s spirit and boxing skills. But he’s delusional here.”

Both guys are shot but this is in the Octagon not the ring. Toney gets humiliated.

That is really the smartest thing David Haye ever said. I was in the grocery store last night and there on the magazine rack was the Ring Magazine, with Haye's big dumb ass on the cover. The caption reads "Haye ready to lace into the Klitschkos" What a crock of shit! Haye is full of shit and Golden Boy.....er I mean the Ring magazine is some bullshit.

why is there a catchweight? Couture dealt with Heavier guys before and could only benefit from Toney being fatter and Toney might have a hard time even making 225...

Wasn't Toney notorious for losing weight quick, back in the day? Still, it dehydrated him back then and this is a sport where dehydration just wears you out faster.

If the fight is at heavyweight, he'll be in the weightclass. If it's at 205, I bet he could make weight in two months---but barring a perfectly-timed punch, his ass is gonna get taken down.

Does Toney know the UFC heavyweight divisison has a weight limit? Dana might want to tell him that. Obviously Toney was too cocky to take this seriously. He thinks he´ll walk in there and KO Couture with the first uppercut he throws. Well that will be the only chance he has anyway. Dana will love the publicity. Couture destroys boxing legend.

I never saw the Fujita\Mayfield fight. I was a big fan of Imamu. He used to headline the club fights I would go to at the Ukranian Center all the time, so I got to see him come up. Unfortunately, he came up, won the IBF Cruiserweight Title, got KO'd in his first defense, and it was all downhill from there.

i dont think i've ever seen mayfield fight in a boxing contest. i knew of him during his short title reign, but the first time i ever saw him was on that k-1 card promoted by inoki. not even sure what to think of that 'mma contest' vs. fujita. it was pretty obvious that mayfield took that fight for money. that and he was wearing boxing gloves and the rules were all modified. that was inoki's opportunistic way of saying how mma evolved since his bullshit mma fight vs. ali. it was extremely lame.

Toney has never weighed over the HW limit. He would have to be ridiculously out of shape to not make 265. his highest weight ever was around 250.

If Randy is smart he will take Toney to the ground IMMEDIATELY, end the fight ASAP and end the ridiculous boxing V MMA debate for ever.
