Calzaghe's quickness and workrate could give Toney some problems, but Toney himself threw lots of punches. He let his punches go in bunches despite taking breaks for like half the round. Toney also has experience against lefties. Toney's counterpunching enables him to emerge a clear decision winner.
Calzaghe by decision. He is not quite Jones but he is better than Griffin. That is, too quick and smart for Toney
Griffin fought a horribly unmotivated version of James Toney, and he did deserve either win. When has Calzaghe even entertained the thought of getting into the ring with someone as dangerous as Toney was at that weight.
Calzaghe fights a different style than the short awkward Griffin. Besides, Toney should've gotten the decision in both of those fights.
yeah, but it's an interesting fight. I wouldn't count Joe out against Toney. In fact, I'd favor him. Even at his best, Toney had a way of losing fights to the pull them out. I'm not sure Joe would have given Toney the opportunity to come back.
I'd take the Toney that beat Barkley and Williams over Joe. Despite the fact that Joe has quick hands, and keeps a high workrate, Toney would be making him miss more than ever before, and would countering accurately in between Joe's flurries. Not only to the head, but to the body as well. None that Ive seen has ever really attempted to attack Joe's body, but Toney certainly would. As the fight goes on, even though Joe would be having success, he'd be accumulating more and more punishment. I think Toney really turns up the heat late, and gives Joe a late round beating and wins on cleaner punching.
Toney threw a ton of punches himself. He's up there on compubox lists having landed more than 400 punches on a few occassions. I know Compubox isn't always that accurate but Toney let his hands go in combo and threw a LOT of shots.
It'll be very simpliar to the Jirov fight..except Calzaghe will do a little better and win the decision.
I havent seen much of Toney at middle weight, but if thats true, its would be an awesome fight, as Calzaghe's work rate is top class.
Toney at his best at 168(weight,motivated) takes Joe. Toney not at his best, Joe hits Toneys gloves a few times and referee O'Connell stops the fight in a Joey Curtis type fashion.
