I was suprised to see how bad Lacy looked against Manfredo. He looked like a spent fighter. I've never been a huge fan of "Left Hooks", but I hope he can get back some of what he lost-whatever that was.

If Manfredo would have let those hands go....

It certainly made his performance against Tsypko appear to be more than just the result of injury.

    I thought he lost.

Lacy started alright the early rounds and appeared to stun Tsypko a couple times early...but I thought he was outboxed clearly after that.

Lacy showed that he hasn't developed his game one bit, and that the inactivity after surgery hurt him. The combo of rust AND lack of progression is daunting for him; perhaps too much so.

    Yep.

Manfredo was clearly outboxing Lacy until the KD. After that Manfredo just did not let his hands go. He could have easily won the fight with just a bit more effort.

Manfredo did let his hands go. Lacy just landed more in the second half.

It was not just Calzaghe...but Lacy's shoulder is fucked up...he had major surgery...his shoulder will never be the same, he can't throw the left-hook like before anymore.

Would you prefer that I let that one stay open and then have many posters opening equally silly threads? If that happened the MM forum would turn into nonsense in no time.

I don't agree that Calzaghe ruined Lacy - h wasn't worth ruining in the first-place.

Agreed. He's a limited fighter that was going to get schooled sooner or later anyway.

I'm more worried that Lacy looked slower than he used to. He was always limited and had some obvious flaws...but his handspeed was never THAT big of an issue. Manfredo made him look like a sloth in there.

Getting slower? Not good and thats something you could probably attribute to the injury. Still, fighting with an apparent lack of fire and confidence might be even more troubling.

Lacy definitely looked like shit. It's like he just closes his eyes and swings some punches hoping they'll land :dunno: He's got to be one of the most inaccurate punchers ever.

the problem with lacy is that he has slow feet, and absolutely must get set before he can throw with any sort of conviction. It makes him very predictable.

He is a very flawed fighter, and will always struggle with the upper echelon of the division. It is clear he went as far as he could with his trainer years and years ago, but anyway.

For the name recognitions he seems to have, he is an easy scalp to get on the resume for someone like Mundine, who shouldnt have any problem moving all night to a comfortable decision.

I think it is all mental......Calzaghe beat him for every second of that fight....completely schooled him

Lacy realised that night that he wasn't as good he and MOST people thought he was....

.....and the flip side to that is that any top 20 super middleweight goes into a fight with him now thinking that he is an overrated puncher and easy to outbox - very beatable

There are some boxers out there who are infitnitely confident, no matter how many times they get beaten...they re-convince themselves that they are the best and come back and remain dangerous......i don't think Lacy has that mental make up

Yeah, I agree with this 100 million %- Lacy may have been nought special but beyond Kessler and Joe, who at 168 would you really have taken to have beaten him prior to that fight with Joe?

He got brutally, brutally beaten down for every single second of that fight, and clearly is now fucked.

He should wrap it all in...

Perfect summation- like Nassem Hamed, except Hamed virtually retired after he got schooled... :eek:ld:

Honestly speaking, I've favoured Mundine over Lacy for about three years now. Lacy would make almost any quick footed, boxer/puncher look good.

    Honestly?

Right now, I'd agree 100%, but did you think/say this prior to Jeff's fight with Joe, Tam?

Yeah, honestly. I'm no real Mundine fan, but it's probably more to do with the little regard I've held Lacy in. I remember talking with a few guys when Calzaghe v Lacy was announced and the first words out of my mouth on it was "If Lacy wins more than a round, Calzaghe must be shot"....just because of the speed and activity difference.

In Mundine, you've got a guy who just eats up plodders. Always has. He has trouble when a jab is put in his face, when he's forced onto the front foot, or he doesnt hold a size advantage. In Lacy, he's had zero problems. I just wish Anthony's team had as much confidence in him as I did back then. That fight was out there for them.
