I have Jerry. Probably tough enough, skilled enough and fast enough to deal with the stronger but cruder and slower Bonavena.
When Jerry was on he was awesome. He'd have to be at his very best to beat Bonavena, but from what I remember in an interview Jerry said "Everybody knows I can beat Bonavena!" but Gil Clancy went with Shavers instead as an opponent. Gil trained Oscar for the Ali fight and may have thought the risk was too great for Jerry who was on a big win streak at the time. I would give a slight lean towards Quarry in a hard fought decision, but he'd have to use his better boxing skills at all times similar to the Ron Lyle fight plan that he pulled off to perfection.
It bothers me that this fight never happened. Along with Frazier-Norton, this was one of the great late 60s/early 70s HW matchups that seemed like a natural, but somehow never came off. I think Bonavena's awkwardness and unpredictable attack may have foiled Quarry's attempts to counterpunch him and gotten him a points victory.
