Joan Guzman-Alex Arthur fight is now off, according to Dan Rafael.

The fight was supposed to be in April but Guzman had visa problems.

Damn he needs to get active. Guzman IMO is a top 10 P4P guy. I hope he can get some big fights at 135 to prove it.

Nate would beat him. Guzman is horrendously overrated.

I give Guzman a major shot against anybody at 135 down. He is far from overated. He is one of the most talented fighters out there right now.

I disagree. Everytime I've seen him, he's looked pretty good, but far from something special.

He's one of those fighters where I just don't get the hype. A bit like Marge.

He would have bashed arthur easily though.

He doesn't train at all. He is very lazy and he still makes world class fighters look like amatuers. If he fought the elite we would get to see the best of him because he would have to train hard.

Why is he moving up.....? Did he just jump 2 divisions a year ago???? Is he eating away his skills...?

I think part of it is the names have retired or moved up, so he's following the crowd up the scale...just as he's done before.

Problem is that no big name will fight him. He is too big a risk with too little reward.

Guzman is probably the best current example of fans being fooled by riduclous skills and flash. Guzman is the 2008 version of the 1991 version of Hector Camacho.

Dan Rafael was about two weeks late with th e visa part. A more accurate and updated version can be found on (another site).

Also, in reading his report, here's what I find strange:

Sycuan breathes fire at Warren for stalling, and the WBO for sitting on their hands, yet are willing to remain in business with the WBO in having Guzman inserted as the #1 lightweight contender.

It's not the reason why Guzman gave up the title, but something of an assurance once he returns to the ring, which might be a while as he's taking time off to be with his ailing mother, who recently developed a tumor.

Arthur most likely advances to full-term titlist without having to fight anyone (another part Dandy got wrong), though the downside is he loses out on a lucrative all-Scot showdown with Scott Harrison, who was unsuccessful in getting his boxing license reinstated.

how the hell does a boxing fan get fooled into thinking a fighter is good?

Maybe if your a newby or if you only see the guy fight once.

The only thing Guzman has lost as he moved up in weight is the power. But he is still a very skilled fighter and pretty fast as well.

not to long ago he fought Soto and people were calling it a toss up. AFter he toyed with Soto nobody even talks about it as if Soto was never good. Not even Arum who claimed Soto was the dark horse of the 130 division

Guzman is a damn good fighter but as he's lost his power he has to rely on his skills. Back when he was at 122 he had the skills and was KOing his oponents.

Guzman's also lost his motor. The fact that he fights in 20 second spurts is lost on you, is it?

    Toyed with Soto  Right.

I think Guzman is more talented than Nate. Guzman is definately a stupid fighter which Nate has proven to be.

Talk about overrated fuckin beating Juan Diaz all of a sudden makes Nate some elite fighter?

The guy was always average and he beat another average figher in Juan Diaz.

    he did toy with Soto

do you think Soto was robbed?

Soto was never gonna win the fight. It got to the point where I though I was watching a bullfight. Guzman would connect and make him miss all night.

only think lacking was the power and for that reason people hate on Guzman.

there is a reason the guy has won two world titles and as he keeps going up in weight someone has yet to beat him.

Soto wasn't robbed. Where did I say he was? What that fight was, was close and Guzman did very little over the second half of that fight, other than throw some slappy combinations and then run out of the way.

The reason he hasn't been beaten is because he fights like once or twice a year and has yet to face a real good fighter.

Right, and who has Guzman beaten that's better than Diaz? Who has Guzman beaten to have him regarded as an elite fighter?

Agreed. And his domination of Humberto Soto is overlooked while other elite fighters feast on the washed up.

guzman's a bad dude. even coming off a decent layoff, he handled soto w/ relative ease.

not sure if his inactivity and going up in weight is going to hurt him, but it will eventually given the right opposition.

hopefully, diaz can somehow beat pacquiao and give guzman a shot at the title. that's an easy fight for the dominican.

Soto is a top 5 fighter at 130. Barrios was top 10. They might not be elite but they are both good. The elite fighters are not lining up to fight Guzman.

Well at least Guzman is coming off a win unlike Juan Fagquez. I'm glad Campbell-Fagquez was just some stupid rumor.
