I don't know how many folks remember this, but this was my first memory of a death from the result of boxing:
Johnny Owen vs Lupe Pintor - WBC Bantamweight title, Sept 19, 1980.

I've also found these four clips from a great docvumentary about Owen and that fateful night - 'The Long Journey':

Was Johnny Owen that poor European bum who got beaten to death in American ring, because he literally couldn't box to save his life?
Isn't he also one of the greatest Irish fighters?

    Welsh.
He could box alright - he just had a thinner skull than jawbone (I think.)

Mind you, it says something that the Americans love to go on and on about how tragic Gerald 'Scumbag' McClellan's story is when he couldn't even stop a chinny Brit.
