Chandler on his best night would probably a decision, but I wouldn't put it past Medel blasting him. But I'm leaning more toward Chandler.
You're quite high in Chandler, right? I seem to remember you having a high opinion of him. I'd have to check more of him out. I've seen bits of him, but he's one of my bigger blind spots at 118.
Chandler is right on that second tier of bantam greats - with Tier A obviously being Jofre, Olivares, Zarate, Harada, Ortiz, ect. Jeff gets wrecked by Jofre, Ruben, and Zarate. I think he likely loses to Pintor too. But I think Chandler was better was better than Canizales, and a class above Sahaprom.
I agree, sort of. Depends on who you're putting in that first bracket. I would have Herrera, Rose and Castillo as a level above him, but I can't say that Lionel Rose is the same level as Ruben Olivares. So, things get a bit mucky. Anyway, I think we roughly rate him in the same spot, although I don't think he'd beat Orlando based off how much he struggled with Gaby. Something I liked about Jeff was his hand fighting. His drop parries were perfect for somebody that tall, and it set up his hook to body while he brief control of his opponent's left. Typically Philadelphian. Why you gotta do him like that man?
As for a comparison between these two in this match-up, Medel is firmly on that tier with Chandler, Lora, Canizales, Rigo, etc
Just rewatching Chandler vs Lujan, weirdly, Chandler reminds me of Raul Perez and Julio Cesar Chavez. Gangly pressure fighter but highly skilled, great inside game and a high workrate. Fast, powerful, very strong with a good chin, great engine and an awesome body attack. His uppercut/hook to the body was awesome; his frames and head control led to a very diverse inside game where he set up some serious offense. He also had a very commanding jab. He was great at countering and an authoritative ring general, but also excellent at ring-cutting. Very imposing fighter with good skills. He was very impressive here, especially given how good Lujan was. He denied him almost all countering opportunities while applying massive amounts of pressure.
