Agreed. AJ seems like a decent fella just doing his best with the limitations he has. I don’t think he’s “afraid” to face the other top guys (On the contrary, I believe he’s willing to do so), but Hearn is determined to milk the cow till it’s last drop, even at the expense of making AJ look like a coward.

Hearn won’t let that fight happen until Fury shows signs of major vulnerability. Boxing heads see that but the casuals obviously don’t.

This. Hearn knows with ever passing year that Fury get's a year closer to some sort of a final irreversible collapse. He is just biding his time. He got lucky with the Ruiz farce when Ruiz came in even heavier the second time around. He knows he won't get lucky again so it's got to be planned right. Just keep waiting for Fury to hit the bottle and for the aftershocks of the Ruiz debacle to finally settle. Pulev is tall and long and might be able to reach in and hit Joshua with a few jabs. If that happens and Joshua shrugs them off and comes forward throwing bombs, it won't be a test-passed but it will be one he at least doesn't fail.

Bringing him out into a bit deeper water the next time to see what happens.

 

For what I have seen of Pulev he usually isn't an aggressive guy. Instead, he often starts very slow (he dropped the first three rounds to Tony Thompson) and when he gets going, he works methodically behind the jab.

The bout against Wlad was an exception, similar to Grant vs Lennox, and with same results too. Granted, knowing Joshua's weakness and his own diminished abilities, he might well try the same strategy again
