Lots of guys beat him at 135. Armstrong, Chavez, Duran, Whitaker, DeJesus, Ortiz, Ike Williams, Beau Jack, a prime Camacho (but Hector would have to be in top shape) and possibly Buchanan, Laguna, Gonzales, and Ramos as well. The kid is still a work in progress, but I think he'd hustle Arturo to a points win at 135.
how about these guys, arguello, mancini, bramble, jl castillo, rosario, pazienza, roger mayweather, corrales, jl ramirez, esteban dejesus
I'd take Diaz over Pazienza and Bramble, particularly over Bramble due to styles make fights. I didn't know that Rog won a title at 135, if he did I forgot. Rog would have to knock him out to win, otherwise Juan would outhustle him on the cards. Ramirez would be 50-50 right now as he was so methodical and slow, but very powerful and tough. Corrales I can't say as IMO the guy was never a lightweight, he was the best welterweight in the lightweight division at one time. If the weigh in was on the same day, Diego wouldn't have had the strength to make it up the ring steps, let alone fight, and Diaz would stop him. The other guys all weighed in on the same day throughout the majority of their careers.
roger won titles at 130 and 140, but also fought at 135. by the way, does diaz struggle at all making 135? is he moving up to 140 anytime soon?
I'd say same thing with Castillo, Juan would whip him if the weigh in was same day. He dosen't struggle at all, Joony. He walks around at 148 max, as he is always, always in the gym. I can guarantee you today he didn't do boxing training as it isn't time yet, but he stairmastered an hour, ran treadmill, swam, and worked out with light weights.
if it was the same day weigh-in, the fight would/would've never happened. it wouldve been an one-sided affair at 140 w/ castillo winning. but diaz does have great conditioning and i'd probably rate him as the best lightweight at this point. not sure how he'd fare at 140. i think malignaggi would beat him.
We'll agree to disagree then on both Castillo having to fight the same day as making 135, and about Paulie as well.
Please! Diaz was tailor made for Chico! The Corrales from the Frietas & first Castillo fight would have half killed Diaz.
Not if they weighed in on the same day as the fight, no way. There is a BIG difference coming down from 148 like Diaz does, to coming down from 170 like Chico did. Chico would have been spent he couldn't have made it into the ring let alone whip Juan.
Not if he would have been made to weigh in the same day of the fight as Duran, Armstrong, Whitaker, Chavez, Williams, Ortiz, DeJesus, Buchanan, Montgomery, Brown, Camacho, and so many others had, no way, not on this planet. Diego could not have even fought that night had he been made to weigh in at 135.
well in today's world, it doesnt work out that way. if corrales from 2 years ago fought diaz at whatever weight class, it would've been lights out
Sorry, Joony. With that line of reasoning, you are discounting the accomplishments of all the true lightweight greats of the past that fought at what they weighed. Diaz would have stopped an emaciated Diego that probably would not have had the strength to even climb the steps. Juan is a true lightweight, where Diego was never a true lightweight.
not sure why we would think about this fight in terms of same-day weigh-ins. why not also suppose it's bare-nuckle? and that there's no limit to the number of rounds - whoever gets knocked out loses. who wins then? and why do we care?
Juan is a true lightweight, majority of others arent. like it or not, that's how boxing works today. if you dont think it's fair for fighters to take advantage of the previous-day weigh-in, then just consider the lightweight division as a 140 or 147lbs weight class and get over it. maybe juan can starve himself and make 130 and fight pacquiao.
I guess the baby bull comes into the ring at 135 lbs and doesn't cut any weight???? bullshit..if there were same day weighins diaz certainly wouldn't fight at Lw
There is a big difference between cuttin 13 pounds, and cutting 30. Yes he would not only fight at 135 after weighing in, he'd win impressively.
