Is this a competitive fight? I'm pretty sure most will pick Katsidis, but I'm curious how convincing you think he wins.
I dunno why most would pick Kat.... Haugen was a better fighter. I highly doubt that Kat even would have beat Jimmy Paul. I'd pick Greg by UD.
and losing to Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz and barely beating Vicente Escobedo DOES??? how in the fuck is Katsidis any better than Haugen? Put this guy in the lightweight division in the mid-80s and he doesnt even rank top ten
Like I said. Jimmy Paul would have waxed Kat. Paul was a very good technical boxer, and had a powerful right hand. Kat in the 80's is basically on the same level as Harry Arroyo.
You have to love Katsidis' old-school approach to match-making, though. It's mighty rare in the modern fightgame, & that's one area where he truly is special. It makes him more man than Anthony Mundine will ever be.
Whilst I agree almost entirely with the central tenet of this, it must be pointed out that Katsidis beat the snot out of Escobedo. Watching it live I was astonoshed that one judge somehow scored that fight the other way round. There is no way on earth he 'barely' beat Escobedo. MTF
Agreed entirely. Katsidis is as limited as hell but that boy sure loves to fight. One of the funniest moments of my entire life came only a few months ago when Katsidis was preparing to wax Kevin Mitchell. The SKY camera cut to Mitchell's dressing room minutes before the ring walk where he was fannying around with pads and the like. Cue shot of Katsidis and trainer in their dressing room, fully kitted up, beating the shit out of each other in an impromptu sparring sesssion. I literally fell over laughing. MTF ::
no. my point is neither guy is special. Katsidis isn't and neither is Haugen. get it? If your opinion is that Haugen beats Katsidis, fine. But don't act like it was crazy of me to propose the match-up, as if Haugen is in a different stratosphere than Katsidis - that simply isn't the case.
