Interesting fight because Pavlik's style isn't unlike McClellan's, although he's probably not as fast, but at the same time more organized and skilled with a better defense. I pick Pavlik by early knock-out, but I also have to allow for the possibility of a Benn victory by vegetable-hood by way of a flying head-butt.
Pavlik also doesnt have nearly as good a chin as G-man. This fight is near a pick em. Slight edge to Kelly, but I could easily see Benn stretching him.
This is a pick-em If Pavlik can survive the early onslaught of Benn and tag him back, I think he gets Nigel out of there by the 7th or so but that is a BIG "if"
I'll also give the slight edge to Pavlik but i wouldn't bet a cent on either in this kind of matchup.
I see a back and forth brawl for the first 5 or 6 rounds, but then Benn gasses out and Pavlik stops him the 8th roudns
If i was working either corner i would tell my guy to go out and punch the other guy in the face - Really Hard. Secondly try not to get punched really hard in the face by the other guy.
:bears::: Classic. Remember, if your fighter is getting his ass handed to him to add the obligatory "double up on your jab!"
I would say Benn's chin was average, and that his stamina was his biggest problem... he tended to get stopped later in fights Do you honestly believe Pavlik is skillful enough to PREVENT Benn from getting near him?
very true... he was not unlike Arturo Gatti in that regard, though he was a bigger hitter than Gatti was
You think Kelly's not gonna hit by Benn? I'm sorry, but Benn isnt Gary Lockett. He WOULD land on Pavlik... and if nothing else, at 160 Benn's power was quite murderous... and Benn wasnt slow either. Theres a VERY real possibilty that Benn KO's Pavlik. Also because of styles.... G-man would have destroyed Pavlik. In the era of Toney, McCallum, Jones, Nunn, Eubank ect.... Pavlik would have been a nobody. I cant even see Pavlik beating Reggie Johnson.
three times. and he should've been counted out against McClellan. and besides losing three times by KO, he was knocked down countless times. don't try to convince me Benn had anything but a below average chin.
that's because you're basing your entire assessment of him on his loss to an amoral, dirty fighting, rule-brealing light heavy-weight whom he fought with bronchitis and tendonitis.
You forgot to mention Pavlik's foot being caught in a bear trap and having to say "One mississppi...Two mississippi...Three mississipppi" prior to throwing each punch.
Thanks for showing me that you don't know what you're talking about. Elaborate on the "three times" he was counted out please. By the way, having the ref stop a fight while you are still on your feet is not being "counted out". And Lol at the "countless" knockdowns. Is that because you can't count?
Double L seems to think because we are saying that Nigel Benn didnt have Terry Norris's chin that we are saying he had Juan LaPorte's
Seems that way, doesn't it? Benn definitely didn't have a great chin, but he was never cold-cocked by anyone like Norris was and you don't go life and death with Gerald Mcclellan if you're the type of fighter who gets comatosed by a stiff breeze. He was wobbled plenty of times but seemed to rally a lot better than most.
:atu: you sound like my 12 year old nephew. you're a fucking childish baby. i love the fact that i can get under your skin so much that it illicits responses you'd expect from a pre-teen.
