Pavlik whups his ass. I actually said BEFORE the FIRST Golovkin fight that Pav's style was worse for Canelo than Golovkin's. Canelo wouldn't fare well against Pavlik's length, power, and work rate. And I'll go on record as saying that Pavlik was a more devastating puncher than Golov. Kelly also had that "not give a fuck" mentality to him that I think Golov somewhat lacks. Pavlik wouldn't play it safe at all. He'd go out there every round to do constant damage to Canelo. Sure, that opens him up to Ginger's counters, but Pav's chin could handle them.
I think Pavlik would stop him outright. Canelo doesn't have the height and sheer technical cunning of Hopkins or even the athleticism and height of Taylor. I think he'd light the midget up, it could be Hearns-Cuevas all over again.
I really don't know. I could see it going just as Xplosive says and I totally agree with his comparison of Pavlik and GGG. The thing I am not sure about is Pavlik's chin in this battle, which would be heated. Canelo is one of those guys who, if he has to go after his opponent, isn't very dangerous, but hits hard when he gets to counter. He won't KO Pavlik, but those body shots would slow him down, too, and up close Canelo could do some facial damage
I’d go with Pavlik. It would be a war. But Pavlik’s right hand would no doubt find the mark consistently.
Canelo does not have a weapon in his arsenal to hurt Pavlik. And he's too short and fat even if he did.
Pavlik was always destined to burn out quickly due to the booze. I could see Canelo outboxing the 2010 Pavlik. But in 07, Kelly fought like a man possessed. He took no prisoners and had no issue taking a few to do bodily damage.
I'd go with Canelo, just a better fighter with much better skills. Pavlik's power makes him dangerous though, but I think Canelo has proven he can take a shot.
I do agree though that Pavlik hit harder than GGG. Not by much but he had that raw-boned discombobulating power, serious stuff.
Pavlik hit on a whole other level to GGG. The reason GGG has that technique is cos he needs it. Pavlik hit hard in the oldest fashion there is. Straight, long, snap into your head, effortless when he was really at it. And long straight shots are the hardest to get out of the way of.
GGG sort of dehumanized guys, they were hurt and knew it. With Pavlik, guys didn't know they were hurt. They got told about it later, usually after they woke up.
The equine will tell you of Canelo's "great defense" but its bullshit. Canelo has no defense for straight shots.
I feel Golov's power was always better to the body. His best punch was always, always the left hook downstairs. Which is why its mind blowing that he abandoned the body in BOTH Canelo fights. To the head, Pavlik definitely hit harder.
I don't think there's a huge chasm between Pavlik and GGG's power to be honest, both are freaky hitters, with Pavlik hitting harder. The key thing for Pavlik was the leverage, he could get so much torque into a shot due to his height and body shape. GGG is miles better skillwise though, and that's why I'd go with Canelo.
People talk about Pavlik’s height “advantage” but me thinks the height could be a disadvantage in this fight. Canelo would be harder to hit than Taylor was and Pavlik’s attack was rather predictable. Also pavlik’s height gives his body a greater target area. Great great fight though. Pure action. I don’t see Either guy getting stopped and I see a close decision. Could go either way TBH
