Who does Main Events even promote these days? :: I remember watching the Gatti/Gomez and Cintron/Mathysse (no idea how to spell) post presser, and you could tell they were really putting all their eggs in one basket with Cintron.
Yeah, they're roster was basically depleted with Gatti and Vargas retiring. They still have Julio and Lorenzo but they're hardly relevent anymore. Main Events has gone down hill for years...and unfortunately Duva Boxing never became anything.
They also signed Tomasz Adamek late last year, the Bell fight being his first with them (though co-promoted along with Adamek's promoter in Poland). But yeah, the fact that they treated Julio's win over Shitty Shay Smith as if he just won Fighter of the Year honors is indicative of the state of their company. Sadly, there's no guarantee that Giovanni Lorenzo - their "can't miss" middleweight - even gets by Raul Marquez next month.
Really? I haven't seen Lorenzo but I figured he'd at least be a lock against Marquez (who can't even beat Bronco McKart these days).
Yup. As for Lorenzo, I think it's time they stop hiding him. Seriously, they would've been wise to put him in with at least ONE top 15 middle. His best win came over the Shark. The guy is big, powerful and also a tad chinny. Main Events is done.
Cintron will always get TV fights. He knocks guys TFO. That spells success for any fighter. I'm not sure what "released" means exactly, but it was probably more a case of their not being able to pay him now that he won't have anymore HBO dates, at least for a while. I'd still love to see Cintron/Cotto - Cotto doesn't have the length, awkwardness and work-rate that Margarito does and I think that more than anything is what confounded Cintron.
:bears: Plus he can always say that he had a hard time making 147and was drained ,even though he didn't::
Cintron can still make alot of money boxing. Possibly look to 154 where it isn't as deep as 147opcorn:
