[FONT=Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]WBA #7 heavyweight Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson (20-0-1, 7KO) fresh off his 5th round destruction of former heavyweight champion of the world Bruce Seldon (38-7, 34KO) was left speechless, a very uncommon occurrence for the colorful Johnson, upon hearing that fellow top 10 heavyweight contender David Haye (21- 1, 20KO) was still looking for an opponent for his heavyweight debut on November 15th.

Haye's just looking for a "name". If Rahman would have signed, he would have KTFO him by now and would be waiting for Wlad. The real sad part is that there are no names. Maybe he could beat up on Maskaev but he could get caught too.

Haye's proclamation that he was going to face a top ten fighter in his step up fight on cable TV was pretty ham-fisted, raising the burden of expectation and giving the upper hand at the negotiating table to the prospective opponent

spot on.....these guys are coming in and asking for too much because they know about his lucrative tv deal and they know if he is to keep his 'top 10 ranked opponent' promise....he'll have to go with one of them.

Meanwhile, Ray Mercer's PR is in overdrive as they lobby for a Haye fight.....won't happen

really?.....well at least one of them is gonna get 'ducked' then.

Interesting, with Johnson they are going for the typical 'calling bluff' tactic, saying Haye is scared etc... with Mercer they are trying to have us believe that the fight is actually close to happening

the truth is probably more like this, Haye will have a shortlist of about 3 or 4 heavyweights, Johnson one of them....and the one he'll chose will be dependent on their ranking(s), style (he is keen to fight a tall fighter a la Klitschko) and, of course, how much dosh they are willing to accept.

WBA #9 JD Chapman agreed terms but failed to show up for the launch earlier in the week so that is in doubt now

Haye is so full of shit it's ridiculous. This guy talked so much shit, he needs to back his talk up and fight someone at least decent. He claims everyone is ducking him, but it's the other way around. I hear tons of guys calling out haye. Fucking pick one already. I already can't stand this guy. I don't care how exciting he is, he's an idiot.

It's two-fold, though... sure, fighters are calling him out, but then they find out how much is being offered and decide that the fight is worth 5x as much.

So far, Kevin Johnson is the only one I've heard who actually agreed to the fight, but was never called back. So in that regard, I agree that Haye's doing a bit of posing.

I can't say that a David Haye-Eddie Chambers fight excites me, and given this recent charade can now see why he was pushed out of HBO's remaining 2008 schedule

    REED Looooooooooves Kevin Johnson...

Some Consider him "Boring", but his Opponents HELP N Making his Bouts "Boring"...

Aside from JABBING, Johnson DOESN'T Lead Much...He Prefers Guys to BRING the Fight to him...But the Jab is Soooooo POTENT, it Makes Guys Think TWICE about Engaging Johnson & Consequently, his Fights Become LESS than Scintillating...

But Make NO Mistake, Dude IS Capable of Delivering Rapid Fire Exchanges, if a Guy Gets CLOSE Enough to him...

Johnson Fights w/an ATTITUDE that REED Likes & he's an ATHLETIC Big Man...

Johnson's a Journalistic DREAM as Well...NEVER a Dull Quote, NEVER a Meaningless Soundbite...

    A Johnson-Haye Fight would B GREAT...In & OUT of the Ring...

    It's Hard to Say, LOK...

Johnson has a Looooooong, HARD, STIFF Pole that he'd Looooooooove to Put INSIDE of Haye...

But Haye has the Power to Render Johnson Unconcious & CUM N his Culo...Having Said that, Haye has a WEAK Chin & Johnson's like 230 lbs, so if he Caught him Right, he Very Well COULD Shit N Haye's Mouth...

No shit!! This guy is a chinless fucking bum who got KO'd by a fucking weak punching light-heavyeight while fighting in the cruiserweight division!!

Look at this sentence in the article:
"upon hearing that fellow top 10 heavyweight contender David Haye (21- 1, 20KO) was still looking for an opponent for his heavyweight debut on November 15th."

Have you ever seen anything more ironic ?!?!

Haye is a fucking shit and he knows it, that's why he's running his cheap dirty mouth and holding out for a "money" fight, because he knows he'll get put to sleep by any half descent heavyweight.

Now Haye or his people are petitioning the WBC to try to get RAy fucking Mercer ranked so that Haye can fight his old ass. I guess his contract or TV deal that he has states that he must fight a ranked opponent. They fucking dug up the corpse of Mercer and are trying to get him ranked.

There is NO EXCUSE for Haye if this fight happens. I will pray to Chinnus Maximus that he get's Amir Khan'd

....unless i have missed something, it is the other way round....Mercer's people are doing the lobbying to get him ranked so they can get their guy one last pay day...as i've said, it won't happen

.....A lot of people are ignorant on Haye, and in my stubborn defence of him you may mistake me for someone who thinks he is the greatest fighter ever......he is not...his success as a heavyweight is not assured.....but he is one of the most exciting fighters in all of boxing....on top of that, he genuinely has the sport's very best interests at heart (as a promoter he has signed taken several boxers from rival promoters, offering them far fairer deals).....

...i can understand, you see Haye as the next in a long line of british hopefuls.....a pretty hit-and-miss bunch by my own admission....and so he's come to the fore in the last year or so, but if you take a look at his record, he isn't into padding it up with stiffs the same way that the rest of the brit bunch are guilty of doing.......he's super-confident and certainly talks the talk....but believe me, he is one of the most candid fighters out there....there was no excuses following the Thompson defeat, he fought like an idiot, and he was the first to admit that......there is no bullshit

he wants a top ten ranked opponent....he has been naive in the way he's gone about it in public, and he's paying for that now, and he'll probably have to pay up to deliver on his promise.......

All I'm saying is after all the shit Haye talked about the HW division and the way he stalked Wlad and called him out in public, he damn sure better not end up fighting Ray Mercer or anyone on that level.

the problem with that sales pitch, however, is that "top ten" paints a broader stroke than one would think at first glance. Not that I agree with The Ring rankings, but at least when HBO had Roy under contract, their Top 10 clause meant only one top 10 list - that Roy had to face fighters ranked in The Ring's Top 10. Short of a consensus AP-style poll, it limits the scope far more than cherry-picking from a list of anywhere from 10-40 candidates - and that's only if you "limit" it to the WBO, WBC, WBA and IBF.

Combining the lists, here are the "candidates":
    Vladimir Virchis
    Juan Carlos Gomez
    Alexander Dimitrenko
    Chris Arreola
    Oleg Maskaev
    Andrew Golota
    James Toney
    Kali Meehan
    Travis Walker
    Alexander Povetkin
    Hasim Rahman
    Sultan Ibragimov
    Eddie Chambers
    Nicolay Valuev
    John Ruiz
    Taras Bidenko
    Kevin Johnson
    Sergei Lyakhovich
    JD Chapman
    Carl Drummond
    Monte Barrett
    Denis Boytsov
    Shane Cameron

Now of that list, consider the names who openly campaigned for the fight, whose otherwise occupied, and who's been rumored as having a decent chance of landing the fight.

It's clear to see that Team Haye was looking to exploit the hell out of that loophole in traveling the past of least resistance. So yes, for the moment, he has a whole lotta making up to do for all of the junk he's talked ever since the year began

oh true, when he said top 10...he meant it in the broad sense of the word you highlighted......the guy's who have campaigned for the fight, have done so for one reason, money....they wouldn't go near Haye if they were only gonna get a little more than what they would normally earn....outside of the champions, it is probably the biggest payday there......so naturally, when they are coming to the table, they are asking for a lot.....

....i just don't like the stick Haye is getting, because stepping into the properly into the heavyweight division (against Bonin, he was more a blown up cruiserweight, he'll be above 220 for this one), and fighting any of those guys is not anything less than risky......he'll bring excitement if nothing else this dormant division, and when he does we will be grateful
