Guy had some amazing fights. I think he was every bit as exciting as Gatti. And he was a better fighter too. His first fight with Gainer was excellent. His fight with Hamed was obviously awesome. His loss to Gonzalez was a war. Don't forget the Goyo Vargas fight. Plus, the guy was a grade A puncher. He could hurt anyone he faced. Thoughts?
His title winning effort over Goyo was his best performance. The Flushing Flash was indeed a good fighter, and had both pop and speed. Wasn't the hardest target though, and didn't have a great chin. Which yes, made him extremely exciting.
Kelley vs Jones would have been guaranteed fireworks and it would have been short and sweet regardless who won.
Kelly woulda showed why Queens>BK. He fucks Jones up. I saw Junior Jones this past summer at a boxing event on the Jersey Shore. He was there with Mark Breland.
Kelly was a guy I was sure would have a career as a commentator... "KO Nation" pretty much put an end to that
What a fucking disaster that was Not to pile on Max Kellerman some more but I remember after it was cancelled there was an interview with him in KO magazine where he essentially blamed the show's failure on HBO not hiring HIM to help create it! He said basically that "as a hip hop artist who had an album out recently" and someone who is a "boxing expert", he had been "stunned" that nobody from HBO asked him to be part of the show ... there were also several ludicrous pictures of Kellerman posing inexplicably in boxing gloves... painful, as painful as jaws hitting the heavybag
Not terrible but worse than I thought he'd be ... I meant more that the show was such a bomb that being directly associated with it probably didn't do him any favors, career wise
Yeah, Kelly wasnt that good as a commentator. For all the hate he gets, you know who I think would make an EXCELLENT commentator one day? Thurman. I'm serious, I think he'd be great. He's articulate, has charisma, and is very good at analyzing fights.
"This guy needs to jump further back when his opponent feints at him... he's only jumping back three feet."
"I don't think it would be smart for Fighter A to take a fight with Fighter B next. He needs to have a mystery car accident on Monday and sit on the shelf for two years."
Speaking of lisps, I was re-watching McGirt-Brown last. Hadn't watched it over 10 years, but was inspired to do so cause Buddy made the Hall this week so I'd figured I'd re-watch some of his old fights. Tyson, who's calling the fight with Steve Albert, says before the fight "If Thimon Brown winth this fight he's the greathest Pound 4 Pound fightah of this thentury." Da fucckkkk??? That's right up there with Foreman's line about Page.
