Williams... Kirkland will be reaching all fight long..and eating hard counters. I see Williams jabbing Kirkland head off with the jab on the move..and stop to load up with punches then moving and jabbing again.... Williams by KO 6-10
Haha yeah cuz Williams does so much holding. Shame that his punch stats don't agree with ya there. And "holding" doesn't get ya KO's or score points, so he would be doin a lot more than holding to get his win.
Williams will Ko Kirkland and Double L would say it happen because Williams tired him out w/ all the holding....Kirk was landing the harder shot throughout the fight...I would like to see a rematch w/ a different ref....that Ko by Williams wasn't conclusive enough....etc..e.tc...
Williams Beats Kirkland EASILY... REED has a Feeling that Kirkland DOESN'T Punch Quite as Hard as his Style LEADS U to Believe...It's DOUBTFUL to REED that he'd HURT Paul Williams...Conversely, Williams has Been Punching Harder & HARDER w/Each Fight... Kirkland ISN'T a "Plan-B" Type of Cat...1nce Williams has Kirkland BACKING UP (which wouldn't Take All that Looooooooooong), the Fight is Basically OVER...Williams by KO N 5 or LESS... REED:kidcool:
I agree Paul wins by stoppage, but I can see this fight coming off someday. It would make alot of sense. But I'm with REED. I see James getting caught on the end of too many of Williams shots, and Paul's chin wont be folding under Kirkland's power, and Williams sure as HELL wont mentally fold up like Julio did.
I'm just going by the Williams/Margarito fight. When Williams gets trapped, he holds. You think Kirkland isn't going to be in h is grill all night. Well guess what? When that happens Williams holds. At 147 against guys half his size he'll oblige them inside but against Kirkland he'll do whatever it takes to keep the fight outside. And most of that will be holding. If the fight gets made, you'll see. I do agree with REED that Williams is sitting down on his punches more now - maybe he can afford to now that he's not a weight drained freak - like he is at 147. 75% of the shots he hit Margarito with were flicks. But it's still impressive Williams managed to beat Mr. brick-hands. Despite what the announcers were saying, Margarito was landing short hard body-shots through-out that entire fight that would've allowed Tony to finish most opponents off. So it was impressive Williams was able to withstand it although even in him you did start to see a little give but in the end I think it was his angles, and tendency to hold inside that, along with his 100 punches per round that won him the fight (he was warned several times by the referee for holding but as per usual nothing came of it).
You'd have to pick Williams. I'd be rooting for James though. Still, Williams is bigger, more polished, has at least as high a workrate, good stamina, probably punches at least as hard too. And to top it off, he has a very good chin too, and is more experienced. Kirkland simply doesn't have any advantages over Williams.
Kirkland has some advatages. His punches are shorter. He seems hungrier mentally. He's a better body puncher than Williams - at least he has a greater tendency to go to the body. And his style of fighting should work well to nullify William's height advantage. Also, Kirkland is probably physically stronger. Let's see William's get past Wright. I'm not even sure he'll manage that. Don't forget. Williams isn't the cheating, dirty and stinking fighter that Hopkins is. Wright will be much more comfortable in the ring with Williams than he was with Hopkins (obviously). I think Wright, should Williams beat him and subsequently fight Kirkland, will find that Wright was the tougher fight. I'd like to see Pavlik fight Williams. I mean who does Williams think he's fooling. Even 154 is too light for him. What weight is he fighting Wright at? Does anyone know?
Winky and Kirkland have nothing in common....Paul probably won't get by Winky..but he will beat Kirkland easily.
Even if Williams losses to Wright, I'd still favor him over Kirkland. Cause I DAMN SURE wouldnt pick Kirkland over Wright... not even after a 2 yr Winky layoff. And I highly disagree on Kirkland being a better body puncher than Williams. The body attack Paul used on Philips was vicious.
I think they are both good body punchers. Kirkland might be a shorter puncher, but that's simply because he has shorter arms :: He's not exactly a short, crisp puncher is he? Kirland throws pretty wild, sloppy punches. I think Wright is past it. I expect tall paul to beat him comfortably.
Kirkland isn't ready for Williams. For his sake hopefully Williams will be completely gone from 147 by the time Kirkland is ready for best in the division.
