i'm actually covering this fight as it's taking place in my area. marcus levesseur, an unbeaten 4 time NCAA division 3 champion is making is his ufc debut. i didnt know about this until i looked up the card today. he's only the second ncaa wrestler to retire unbeaten while winning 4 titles. he was first recruited by univ of minnesota, but left during his freshman year to a division 3 school, but beat a lot of division 2 guys during his career. he also beat bellator welterweight champ Ben Askren when they were in high school. anyways, his mma career doesn't stand out much as he's lost a few times to guys i've never heard of, but i'm stilll interested in seeing if he can improve his game against better opposition. as for the main event, it almost looks like the korean zombie is headlining based on the strong korean population in the northern va area. this is only the second time that ufc is holding an event at the Patriot center since maynard vs. diaz a couple of years ago.
Another great match-up for the hardcore fans. Two of the best FW's in the world squaring off. I think both guys are at their absolute best right now. For the Zombie, he learned from the first Garcia fight and the Roop fight that he needs to forget living up to his nickname and apply all his skills. Since the loss to Roop, the dude has turned a corner. He looked great in subbing Garcia in the rematch and had spectacular KO againt Homick. Poirier, on the other hand, has been an absolute monster since dropping down to 145. He's undefeated at the weight and easily beat some talented guys like Grispi and Garza as well as destroying newcomer Max Holloway. I like Poirier in this one but expect a great fight. This is a solid card. And by the way, for those that don't know it, Joony's wrestling stud, Marcus Levesseur, is replacing Aaron Simpson on the card against Jarhead's boy Cody McKenzie.
oh, i thought he was replacing aaron riley who got injured. riley's a local here in the fairfax area and trains mma at the judo gym i used to go to. levesseur looks like he had most if not all of his fights in his home state of MN. i've seen few of his fights on youtube and he appears to have some speed and of course, very good takedowns, but just hasn't lived up to the hype since his post amateur wrestling days.
