Does anyone, and I do mean anyone, really think that Gavin Rees (27-0-0, 13 Ko's) has any chance of beating Andreas Kotelnik (28-2-1, 12 KO's) to retain his WBA Light-Welterweight title in Wales on Saturday, or will Kotelnik finally get his hands on a world bauble?

    Thoughts/predictions?

Yes quite a lot people think he has a chance which is around 30-40% given that he's fighting at home and Kotelnik's difficulties with getting belts out of the UK...

Rees by KO, early. He has more power than Kotelniks. He looks more pugnacious too.

    Rees, early.

What do you mean "even Witter"?

I didn't realise Witter was one of the best P4P fighters in the world, and one of the hardest punchers.

There is a pretty big difference in ability between Rees and Witter, and Rees and Kotelnik, and that you shall see on saturday.

    Rees, early.

If it goes to the cards, then Kotelnik had better be miles out in front, otherwise he has no chance of winning in Wales on a Werren card. Of that I'm fairly sure...

Kotelnik by late pummelling in a "brave effort" by the welshman which will put the taffies 0-2 in world championship fights in 2008

    Kotelink UD

As much as i like Rees, i can't help but feel that his title win was as much to do with Mbaye not really showing up, as it down to Rees' pocket dynamo speed and workrate.

Kotelink is technically sound, and has proven himself over a number of fights to be world class light welterweight, Rees, despite being a world champion, hasn't done that.

Kotelink uses his skill to outbox Rees, whose workrate and home town advantage may make it close.

This is pretty much how I see this going.

No doubt Kotelnik's win will be declared 'surprising' and Rees 'unfortunate' by Setanta during and after the fight. Even if he gets iced early doors...

It has to be said that he did look bloody impressive in beating Mbaye, but, then again, all Sports Network champions look impressive when they fight, unless they fight truly live bodies and/or they are Joe Calzaghe, who no longer needs protecting, it seems.

The same thing that applied to Mac applies to Rees- he COULD very well be excellent, but there is always that huge element of doubt with Werren's fighters, because he is so, erm, 'selective' in his match making.

Does anyone have the odds for this fight, btw?

Mbaye had gone life and death with Raul Balbi prior to that and didn't deserve the previous kotelnik decision anyway...Mbaye is much faded

Considering that Andreas probably has to win by KO to win, 7-1 seems like a good price to me...

Kotelnik is going to lose. He's not active enough and don't hit hard enough. he will lose a decision.

I´m not cynic enough to bet on a robbery. Do we know if Warren has hired three british stooges again?

I figure Rees has home advantage and to be honest I don't think he matches up with Kotelnik badly. He has quick enough hands and is busy enough to win IMO. Kotelniks style is not exactly loved by judges.

Rees will win, after Kotelnik quits on his stool.
    Here's my reasoning for this:
    1) Kotelnik is a junior-welterweight.
    2) Kotelnik is a post-Soviet boxer.
    3) Kauki roots for Kotelnik
The only two other post-Soviet junior-welterweights, who Kauki nutlicked, were Zoo and Abdula, and both quit disgracefully. It's Kotelnik's turn now.
    Easy fight to pick.

You might have picked Rees to beat Kotelnik, but you did it fully realizing the mighty power of the dreaded "Kauki curse". You know well enough that whoever you picked is going to lose in the most humiliating fashion possible.
So, secretly, you're picking against Rees......

Interesting,..Im a Kotelnik fan?, it's rare a poster has favourite fighters delegated to her, I'm apparently a fan of Dzindziruk too, according to Illuminati, yet just like Kotelnik, have never seen him fight, nor have ever talked about him, intruiging stuff Dympeople. It wont do much for me if either are beaten, but they sound white, so, help yourself when they are. :crafty:

Since when seeing a fighter has any bearing on picking him in a fight :dunno: ?
For example, I've never seen Kessler fight before his Calzaghe bout, but I picked Calzaghe to whip his ass as soon as I found you were a Kessler fan. All I had to know was that you were rooting for Kessler in order to make a correct prediction for a fight.
