pacquiaos sock excuse was against marquez in their first bout. with morales he complained of wearing the winning gloves.

tysons complaint that he broke his back wasnt an excuse but classic nonetheless.

hopkins excuse against calzaghe was epic as well.

JC Chavez Unruly Child- the one who burst his eye open before the Oscar Re.

    Holyfield for Bowe III {Prophets, vitamin D poisoning, sick} and Lewis I {sick} and Moorer I {hole in his heart, hepatitis, etc}

Archie Moore vs Marciano- Archie claimed he had a plan to beat Rocky, but that the referee wouldn't allow him implement it. Oddly enough neither would Rocky.

George Foreman and his loose ropes.

    You thinking of Six-Heads Lewis?

    To Irish,

The ropes actually were loose - that alone puts it out of contention, when you hear things like Vinny Pazienza having a caffeine crash (my personal fave  ). Foreman actually offered a lot of excuses - the ropes were probably the most credible of a very incredible list.

You're right, the socks and blisters excuse was the Marquez fight...funny...you'd think he'd have sympathy for Shane complaining about his feet.

One to add to the Morales loss excuse and the basis for his unwillingness to take the blood test...he says three days before the Morales fight he gave blood and it made him weak.

    :giggle:

there have been a substantial number of morons I have argued with who have tried to claim that Archie Moore threw that fight; took a dive

This is thanks, in large part, to an idiotic book (The Devil and Sonny Liston) by an idiotic man (Nick Tosches) which devotes several pages to descriptions of the champion's cock

Anyone who has ever watched that bout and watched Moore beaten half to death would rightly find the idea of a fix preposterous

    Cornelius Boza-Edwards against Alexis Arguello

but it wasn't an excuse, his bowels let loose after some particularly brutal body shots

the ropes being loose is one of those legends - like Dundee tearing Ali's glove to buy time against Cooper - that don't stand up particularly well to scrutiny

Frankly, I think the Foreman excuses regarding Zaire and the ropes in particular, are a load of horseshit

    ONe of the worst ever

I hated Cabitcho's dad as much as anyone not named Vinny Paz and there was no question he was a front-running pussy who ran and clinched his way to "wins" for the vast majority of his career, but I'll say this for the guy -- he never quit in a fight and against Chavez he manged to stay upright while taking a hideous beating... he ran a lot, especially as the rounds wore on, but he didn't quit even when his corner suggest he surrender after the 10th round

Sr. is as gutsy as Joe Frazier compared to his pathetic son

Why the fuck would a book need a description of Listons dick? How is it at all relevant?

Its true, I read it years ago. The book does indeed delve into that area.

Vitali Klitschko's injury seemed pretty lame to me,.. he didn't look like he was in that much pain after the Byrd fight,.. he's still a great fighter but I really wonder wether he really could have continued or not,.. it was his Roberto Duran moment.

anyone who ever had the misfortune of reading Tosches' articles about anything would not find it hard to believe that he would indulge as many irrelevancies as possible

It's not relevant at all, but neither is Nick Tosches

I dont doubt the legitimacy of that injury one bit

I still think he could have stood there holding his arm for three rounds and Byrd still would have lost LOL

But I can't really begrudge him there, there was no reason to assume he whimped out... he was dominating, there wasn't even a tiny bit of resistance that he was up against, so I fail to see how anyone woudl think he had any reason to want out

But you would think, if he was as in as much pain as he says he was, he'd be showing some form of grimace on his face,.. as it was, he walked around the ring and indulged in some after-fight pleasantries,.. it wasn't as if it was like Bernard Hopkins against Echols, where his bone hung out of it's socket by a mere thread of tendon or so the legend has it.
