Holmes, of course, by far the greater fighter and better all-around but stylistically an interesting one. Up-and-coming Bowe had trouble with old Tony Tubbs who was a skilful boxer, while Holmes had tough bouts with strong guys with good jabs, Williams, young Witherspoon and Norton among them. Holmes usually wore his opponents down by jabbing and moving and stopped them late, but Bowe had great stamina. What happens here?
Tough fight to pick. I think that the Bowe of the first Holyfield fight has too much for Holmes and wins a decision.
Prime Larry outboxes Bowe. Although Riddick would certainly give him trouble, I just think Holmes would be too quick and smart for him.
Pretty interesting matchup. Could go either way. Both guys showed greatness at their best and vulnerabilities when not. Holmes is cleary the greater fighter historically. Styles are more important than greatness in a head to head fight, but i'd still slightly favor Larry. Bowe was a terrific infighter for his size and also could box quite a bit. I think Holmes' jab would dictate where and when the pure boxing or warfare would take place. I see that as the difference. Holmes by split decision.
I'm a huge fan of Big Daddy Bowe, I think he is probably the single most wasted talent ever in boxing.. he really could have been great. Holmes, WAS great.. it's hard to say.. I feel like you gotta give it to Larry but I think on Bowe's best night.. he might win!
