If this is true, then Ennis truly is the only young fighter with no baggage and no training issues. I think Boots would beat the fuck outta Vergil anyway.
2 Ways of Looking @ It... 1. Team Ortiz Severed Ties w/Robert Garcia, Now They Have Trouble Making Weight... 2. Vergil Ortiz Sr. Is About 6'1 - 6'2 and Anywhere from 185-200lbs (Not Fat @ All, Either)...Apples Don't Fall Faaaaaar from Trees...If Father's a Good Sized Dude, Chances Are Son Will Be Likewise... REED Chooses to Believe the Latter...Verg Jr. is Actually BIGGER Than Errol Spence, Who's Considered a "Big" Welter By TODAY'S Standards...REED Thinks it's Time Verg Jr. Move Up to '54... Sad He's Now Campaigned @ 2 Weight Classes w/Out Fighting for a Title... REED
Virgil must have picked up some bad habits from team Garcia. A bunch of lazy fucks in that gym. THE OG FATASS FERNANDO VARGAS, FAT MAIDANA, FAT SKINNY MIKEY GARCIA, FAT SLOPPY BRANDON RIOS. THE MOST UNDISCIPLINED GYM IN BOXING.
Glad I didn't plan my weekend around attending. I'm told the English kid can box and isn't a pushover so they probably felt ortiz wasn't looking sharp enough to deal with his movement while weakened
Ortiz could sleepwalk to the ring and still KO McKinson, there was no fear about the opponent this weekend. Although I am reading Ortiz has some kind of liver disease.
McKinson is a complete hype job who's gotten by so far with reflexes and a spoiling style. Ortiz would've bullied him easily IMO.
Training was never an issue with Vargas. He always trained extremely hard. He started having weight issues because his back was fucked up.
I'm more than willing to give Verg the benefit of the doubt here, and believe that something is fact medically wrong. It's dangerous to assume that a fighter/camp is ALWAYS lying. Ortiz comes across as a dedicated kid, and Robert Garcia always said that he was THE hardest trainer at his gym. He doesn't have the primadonna personality of a Ryan or Fimo.
If this is true, then I humbly apologize to him because it is a serious condition. If it’s a weight issue, then he’s wasting time at 147 and needs to move up to 154 immediately.
I followed Vargas back in those days. And during the Vanderpool post fight interview he admitted to having discipline problems with his training regimine and diet. He loved that Mexican home cooking a little too much. I just get the filling that team Garcia is a little too laid back.
Some Trainers are SKILL Oriented, Others are CONDITIONING Oriented…Sounds Like Garcia’s the Former… Adding a Strength/Conditioning/Nutrition Guy to the Mix Would Help… REED
