Let The Right One In Let Me In A rarity here, as the follow up American version is almost completely faithful to the original overseas film. For those who didn't like the Swedish version, you may like the American version a bit more. It was somewhat more polished, didn't drag quite as much despite having almost identical running times, the acting may have been slightly better, and you don't have the pesky subtitles so many people hate. That said, there were some subtleties to the Swedish version that I preferred to the American version. Everything being equal though, they are pretty equal. An interesting and more intimate take on the vampire genre then we are used to seeing. It's not all glistening bodies, super models and teen angst. It's mostly sad, lonely and desperate. 8/10 for each film
I caught the original on Netflix well before the American remake came out. It might be because I already knew the story/plot, but the Sweedish version seemed far darker and more frightening.
I can't argue with that. I think the Swedish setting was danker and the people in it a bit more real then the US version. I think the US version tied everything together a little nicer and created a bit more tension in the process.
To me the original absolutely shits on the American version, which I found drab in comparison. The big thing to me is the two children in the Swedish version seem perfect for their roles, whereas the chick in the American version seems like she got her role simply because she seems to be the proverbial next big thing in acting. LTROI is one of my all time favorite movies hands down, whereas LMI was merely a typical lesser American remake I'll never watch again. I liked the original so much I bought and read the novel and you know what? It was the first time ever that I liked a film more than I liked the novel it originated from.
