Some of you guys OBVIOUSLY don't know how to score a fight. I agree that Tua finished stronger and had his moments BUT that doesn't win you a fight. It's about the number of rounds you have won.

The first 4 rounds were won CLEARLY by Ibeabuchi. That leaves 8 rounds. Ike only needs three of them to win. I believe these 8 rounds can be split between Ike and Tua. Most of those rounds were very close. Ibeabuchi wins the fight either 8-4 or 7-5.

I used to have a detailed scorecard drawn up, but that was two or three computers ago. I had it 6-5-1 for Tua, so obviously I could see a draw or a close win either way.

From what I remember I had Ike winning most of the rounds. It was not even close.

I think Ike won about 7-5 in a fight that was a vastly overrated sloppy slapping contest

U're RIGHT about that, but then Ike Started to FADE a Bit...

REED Gave Ike the 1st 4 Rounds as Well, but then Scored the Next 4 for Tua, ARGUABLY the Next 5...For the Record, REED Scored the 9th Round EVEN....REED Scored the 12th Even as Well...Unlike MOST Judges, REED Isn't Shy about Scoring a Round EVEN & REED Recalls Rounds 9 & 12 Being Waged on EVEN Terms...

Here's how REED Broke it Down...

    Ike - 1,2,3,4 & 10...
    Tua - 5,6,7,8 & 11...

    Rounds 9 & 12 EVEN...

    115-115, a DRAW....

I always thought Tua won a close, very competitive fight and had no problem that the other guy got the decision.

    im on this wagon also.

Activity wins in a fight like that, and Ike was more active throughout.

Yeah, but to suggest it wasn't close is to suggest you haven't watched the fight.

not close in the sense of score. I mean a guy can be competitive and not be winning rounds...ala Marquez-Pacquiao II, which I had 8-4, which made my card make it seem uncompetitive. But it was certainly a competitive fight.

I would consider this the same as something like Ali-Frazier 1, which would be wide on the scorecards, but still a competitive fight.

Ike was just doing more and winning most of the rounds IMO, I've never understood the controversy regarding this fight.

As I said, I wish I still had my scorecard. I can't really argue with you. I haven't scored it in years.

You aren't seriously suggesting I haven't seen this fight are you? Ike won 7 or 8 rounds. If I remember correctly, he won the first 4 clearly. There is no way Tua won 7 of the next 8. I not only have that fight. I saw it live on HBO. The judges scored the fight about what I did and it was a ud for them. I never thought it was close at all.

Man that was a long time ago, wasn't Clinton still in office?

I didn't physically score it, but the judges got it right.

Ike reportedly suffered brain damage in that fight which led to more violent and very psychotic behavior from a guy that was already crazy to begin with as he went off the deep end afterwards.

ike, as crazy as he was, made a good point in the post-fight interview when asked, "what won you this fight?" Ike said it was ring generalship. i agreed. he controlled the ring. people rag on him for beating Tua in a close fight (as opposed to Lewis' wide but unwatchable decision win), but i can't recall anyone before or since trading with Tua and not getting knocked out, let alone winning!!!

I thought Ike won close but clear.

Tua did get fat afterwards - but moreso after the first Rahman match, probably the last time he was ever in good shape. that was for the #1 contender spot, Tua won by cheating and then he took a LOOOONG layoff, got back into the ring for his next fight at an obscene weight and never was the same guy

The Tua that showed up for this fight never existed before or after. This guy threw punches for most of the fight instead of hibernating.

I thought Ike won very close, but Tua could have gotten the nod easily enough, as I remember.

These guys should have never fought eachother. They have ruined eachother. Both good have achieved better things if this fight never happened.

I thought his fight with Izon(ritei) set the record for punches that this fight broke.

ike fought like a 240 pound middle-weight - coordinated, fast, good foot-work. it's a damn shame what became of him.

I dunno. David Izon did it for 11 rounds. Granted, he got KTFO out in absolutey brutal fashion...but he also got hit a great deal more than Ike and I think he was beating Tua as well.

Ike was a really tough dude though.

Lastly, Joones says that Tua got fat and was never the same again? Well, there's plenty of proof that Ike went bad afte that fight too.
