Continuing with the Liston trend, who wins? I'm sure most already know my choice is.

    What a fight.

I think Liston beats Tyson. Liston was probably stronger, hit harder and was just as intimidating.

Not to mention Liston had that super long reach. I think he had the same exact reach as Lennox Lewis.

Liston easily. Tyson's overrated, fought a long line of intimidated opposition, and those who weren't afraid gave him hell.

Damm. Amazing how people are swayed by the 2 fights Liston threw Vs Ali.
I guess people figure because Liston got stopped by Ali that Tyson would make easy work of him.
Maybe he would if the Ali fights were legit.

watch some of pre-patterson liston fights that go more than 5 rounds. this dude could box and his display of jab was quite impressive.

bottom line, tyson never beat a great heavyweight who was in his prime. instead he beat a bunch of B level guys and great guys who were past their prime.

And who the hell exactly did Liston ever beat who was great?

Tyson's resume of wins is more impressive than Sonny's. Patterson was a blown up MIDDLEWEIGHT!

patterson was a blown up middle? okay, then what was Spinks?

patterson was a full time heavyweight. spinks wasnt.

tyson never looked impressive when he went 12 rounds and most of the guys he blew out were mediocre. liston could punch but his boxing skills were better than tyson's.

I dont consider Spinks to be Tyson's best win. He blew away tough rugged guys like Berbick, Thomas, Tubbs, who werent great but they were decent and tough. Also, the fact that he's the ONLY one to ever stop Holmes(despite the fact Larry was past it) is impressive. He also beat Ruddock, who was probably better than Cleveland Williams.

Liston has skills over Tyson, but Mike has a huge edge in speed, better defense, and in my mind a better chin.

That's your opinion X. We know for sure that Tyson looked very ordinary in a fight that dragged on. Liston has all the tools to take Tyson out. It's not like Buster Douglas was any kind of hot sh*t, he just had some heart, a jab and put punches together well.

well, maybe it was just that night, but douglas looked excpetionally fast and fluid. he truly was a one-hit wonder. but then again, tyson looked like complete dog shit but still managed to drop and nearly KOed douglas.

i would say a prepared tyson would've gotten the job done.

anyways, because tyson's prime was brief and never beat a great fighter who's in his prime, it's hard to pick him against any great heavyweight.

when i was in vegas two weeks ago, i overheard some sports radio folks from atlanta. they said they saw tyson telling reporters how ali would've beaten his ass and how ali had beaten guys MUCH tougher that him.

so i think it's somewhat ineffable to say that tyson had the perfect style to KO frazier when he's never beaten a guy who comes remotely as close as to being tough as frazier was.

Tyson looked like complete dogshit because of Buster. Tyson had to work his ass off for one of the few times in his career up to that day and he couldn't handle it. Which other fighter ever made Tyson work his ass off like that? Every other guy was running away, with a couple of exceptions like Mitch Green who despite being tough had zero power and not a whole lot of talent.
Buster went in there and took the fight to Tyson trying to knock him the f*ck out. He showed zero intimidation of the man.
Tyson was so used to having guys fold or running scared as soon as he threw the first punch. Tyson got brutally raped and KTFO into another planet!
People still wanna deny it though but it's the truth. Nothing Tyson could've done that night. This was no Michael Spinks/Bruce Seldon bullsh*t! Buster could've just fallen and taken the money. But it wasn't gonna happen.

Tyson never beat a great fighter. I don't count Holmes because he was shot. And I dont count Spinks because he was not a "great" HW.

No one really. Patterson was good, but not "great".
