Loma has officially decided to hang em up. I wish him well. First ballot HOFmer for sure, but simultaneously I think he was overrated and his fanboys were some of the biggest apologists we've ever seen. I also think he's a diva asshole. Not nearly as good or as great as Usyk, but like I said, he'll definitely be in the Hall in 5 years.
That pussy Davis was only pushing to fight Loma because he knew Loma was semi-retired. He wanted no parts of him when the fight actually mattered. Loma would have spanked Tank in his prime.
Gonna miss watching Loma’s fights since he was always the one to be excited to see when he came on. Probably falls short of ATG all things considered but a first ballot HOFer no doubt. Enjoy retirement champ.
Tank and Mikey Garcia had no intention in fighting Lomachenko while he was still going hot. Loma would have spanked them both in 2018-2019. I still think he should have at least gotten the win over Salido and Haney. Only Lopez was the one to truly beat him. The Loma craze was definitely way overboard and he was severely overrated to the high heavens. But still you can’t deny the skills he showed which was so mesmerizing to watch at times. Just a shame that his career felt a bit unfulfilled.
I'll always wonder how Lomachenko vs Garcia would have gone down. I think Mikey had the ability to beat Loma, but I dont think he had enough heart to push for the win. The guy seriously lacked desire. Mikey might have been a bit too methodical for a prime Loma. Prime Mikey Garcia takes Tank apart, however.
Mikey had serious power but he was too methodical and one note for him to be a serious threat to Loma. It was obvious that Mikey decided to move up to fight Spence instead just so he didn’t have to receive the boxing lesson from Loma. Instead he thought it was a good idea to just get beaten up by a much bigger opponent. Definitely not a smart career move.
Loma definitely should have remained at 130 where he looked his absolute best there. The way he knocked out Martinez and then made the likes of Rigondeaux and Walters quit in their stools was impressive. He would have easily cleaned out Super Featherweight and dominated there for awhile especially where you had guys like Oscar Valdez, Miguel Berchelt, Isaac Dogboe, and Francisco Vargas around at the time.
Thats hard for me to say. Mikey was only there for a check in the Spence fight. But at the same time, bum ass Tank is nowhere near as good as peak Spence.
Loma was very talented and I was a big fan. I do think he was a bit overrated, and I include myself as somebody who overrated him, but I will miss watching him fight all the same. His footwork and angles were mesmerising at times.
Indeed, what i especially enjoyed is that he used that often to attack, while so often fighters that have anything close to that skillset look just to counter. What is also memorable is making guys who weren't even especially hurt quit on their stool, and two of them were even undefeated.
He probably had the best movement and pivot coming forward ever. His career is a bit of a dissapointment imo though. Doesnt really have a career defining win (dont say old small ass Rigondeaux), and that loss to Lopez is embarassing, even more so considering how he fought (or didnt fought). First ballot HOF for sure, but clearly not an ATG in my book
Duran had better footwork than Loma and was better at pivoting in attack mode, and better at not getting hit clean in the process. Not as flashy, but better and more effective. Most importantly, Duran was doing this against A-level competition, not against the Anthony Crolla's and Nicholas Walters' of the world.
