On March 8th, Enzo Maccarinelli (28-1, 21 KO's) takes on David 'Hayemaker' Haye (20-1, 19 KO's) in London for the Unified Cruiserweight title. The WBA, WBC and WBO titles are on the line. Both guys are renowned punchers, and also known for having somewhat suspect chins. Enzo has improved a great deal under the tutalage of Enzo Calzaghe (Ring Magazine 'Trainer of the Year'), but Haye pulled out a sensational win in Paris last time out to get off the floor in the 4th and stop Jean Marc Mormeck in 7 rounds to win his pair of belts. Haye is the 1/2 favourite at the bookies, but IMO this is an even fight and though I have money and sig bets on this forum in favour of Haye, if I was a betting man I'd lump on Mac at 6/4. Those are good odds for a fight which might end when the first clean shot lands. Anyone care to lend their thoughts at this stage? MTF opcorn:
Enzo is going to take him out within 6, most people dont realise how much he has improved in the last 12 months. Really looking forward to this one.
He has definitely improved since he started working with Enzo Calzaghe- no doubt about that. But his level of comp has been AWFUL- apart from a shot to pieces Braithwaite, he hasn't fought anyone live for years. His last prospective opponent was barred from fighting because he was deemed unworthy of fighting him :: Typical Werren, I suppose. :shit: He could be the best CW on the planet, but no-one would have a clue because he is so well protected... However, I'm still taking Haye. I just think he's a little bit better. Either way, this should be a BARNSTORMER. I'm really looking forward to this one too... opcorn:
I'm going with Haye. I was quite impressed with him taking mormeck out, he's better than I thought he was.
Interesting odds. Interesting fight. So hard to pick. Macaroni has improved markedly but I feel that Haye is the better skilled fighter. He certainly hs the edge in speed, which could be crucial but his stamina is suspect and his chin is probably weaker, although neither is iron chinned. Anything could happen, it's a real 50:50 so 6/4 is value but I would rather sit back and watch this fight and enjoy it, than bet on it.
Ditto. Although I think I did predict the result (or was a round out) somewhere on this forum before the fight, I was doing it mainly to argue with Donny, and certainly wasn't going to put any money down or anything like that. It was very impressive- going to a Champion's backyard and getting off the deck to KO him is always a very impressive boxing performance, especially against Mormeck, who most would have picked to be the best CW at the time. Enzo has nothing in his resume to suggest that he is up to that standard- he is a typical Werren fighter: protected to death. He could be the SHIT, like Calzaghe turned out to be, but you never know until he fights someone live. This time, he is...
Having Never Seen EITHER Guy, REED is REALLY Looking Forward to this Fight...Luckily, Showtime is Broadcasting... REED:clap:
Really? I presume that they have had no exposure at all over the pond then? Haye I can sort of understand, but Enzo seems to be on every single Joe Calzaghe undercard- I thought you guys might have seen a little bit of him? For that reason alone, this fight is pretty big over here. Everyone I know is picking Mac, but this is because they keep watching him KO-ing tomato cans on Werren/Calzaghe cards and have NO real knowledge at all on Haye. They seem to think he is another easy victim. They are very wrong- this is a real, live 50/50 fight between two guys who can BANG and are suspect around the whiskers. Could be all over in a round this one.
Aren't you like 22 or something, Attraction? :: On a serious note, your post was absolutely spot on. I'm tempted to lump on Mac simply because the odds are good value IMO, but I also agree that Haye is the more skilled of the two and should prevail. Should be an excellent fight either way.
We Get ALOT of Calzaghe Bouts, but Usually it's JUST his Bouts... If REED isn't Mistaken, Calzaghe's Bouts w/Lacy, Bika, Manfredo & Kessler were ALL Televised N America yet NONE of the Undercard Bouts were Shown... REED
I can confirm that you're not missing much. You know you can download fights dont you reed? www.worldboxingvideoarchive.com probably has every fight ever on it.
Maccarinelli fought on the under cards of the Lacy, Bika and Manfredo fights  Only when Joe fought Mikkel did Werren refuse to risk both of his champions on the same night.
Very true. The undercards Werren puts on are generally a DISGRACE, and in respect of Enzo, the only opponent worth a light has been 'Big Truck'. The rest were all tomato cans. That said, the Jennings-Minter fight on the undercard of Khan - St Clair was the best bout I've seen all year.
Im really looking forward to this fight. I gotta go with Haye right now i think he is faster and a bigger puncher.
Apparently you are able to give a balanced opinion about a fight that includes Brit(s) :: Agreed completely
