The youngest man ever to hold the lightweight title passed away yesterday, July 6th.
Mando was a close personal friend of mine and I used to love talking to him for hours on end.
He was just a great man who overcame alcohol and heroin addiction to develop his own youth program, Boxing Against Alcohol and Drugs.

    May God rest his soul.

One of my favorite lightweights of that era; I've been a fan for years and have plenty of his fights. Never in a dull one.

Stiff, thunderous jab, great left-hook, tall but a good inside fighter, good body puncher...scrappy, tough, prone to cuts. What more could you ask for?

He would have become even more than he was had he not been hellbent on wild living outside the ropes (a familiar refrain in boxing).

Highly recommended watching...his fights with Kobayashi, Teo Cruz, Laguna, Carrascos, Sugar Ramos, Rojas, etc....all good ones.

    Peace.
