His life outside the ring is becoming overwhelming by the day ....hell he couldn't even make it to the wildcard gym in time (A month late)which is probly a first for him and I think its going too get worse.I also noticed at the weigh in that he just wasn't himself,it seemed like he wanted no part of it when usually he's enthusiastic. If he can't make boxing his number one priority and put his foot down towards the hanger ons and leechers he's going to lose to a fighter he has no business losing too(Marquez:lol:)

That's what I have been trying to say in the other thread BTG, and you disagreed with me and said it was barrera's doing :dunno:

That's right, he doesn't really want to fight anymore, you can tell, he should retire.

He'll retire when he's ready. That ain't anytime soon since he still makes millions in the ring.

This may be the first time in history a fighter wins a fight against a top-10 opponent (in his division) by scores ranging from 8-3-1 to 12-0 (apparently)....

And there are excuses and explanations going up all over the place along with calls to retire.

    It's one fight....sheesh.

And one that was likely not all that motivating for Pac given he dominated this guy in 2003 and now Barrera is 4 years older and one division heavier.

And wasn't Barrera fighting so "negatively" that he made Pac look bad? :dunno:

    Manny's fine.

    Peace.

I disagree Donny. Can you imagine Duran a year or 2 before facing Leonard, saying he wants to be a politician and campaigning for office?

And then when that doesn't work out, contemplating law school?

Manny has lost his fire Donny, it's that simple. Boxing has been great for Manny, but he has now started to experience and enjoy a lot of things outside the ring, and he simply doesn't have the same fire inside it now.

He wouldn't of KO Barrera tonight he was too damn defensive and moving to his left the whole fight.I was concerned with the way he prepared for this fight if he fights a fighter thats confident and young and comes to win he could be in deep trouble because the way he prepares for fights lately is suspect......and on a side note he weighed 130 for the weighin when usually he's 2 lbs below the weight limit.

How come any time someone over 30 has a fight - even if he wins every fucking round - some idiot has to start a "_______ needs to retire" thread?

MWS, I love you man, but you're being ridiculous.

    Manny = :eek:ld: :lol:

I know what you're saying and can see some of the "distractions" in Manny's life....

But going from talking about him smashing Barrera pre-fight - and absolutely mocking those who gave Barrera any chance - to now saying he has "completely lost his fire" and "needs to retire" and "you'd pick Lizarraga"....

Man, have a drink with yer mates at the pub, then go to bed, and think about it in the morning.

yeah, I have to agree, and not just based on this one fight.

Add to that, there's existing (and possibly) increasing tension between he and Freddie, he's no longer in his prime (though still good enough to be the 2nd best fighter in the world), he's finally getting paid real money after years of fighting to make everyone else richer... I wouldn't say that he needs to retire tomorrow, but he does seem to be closer to the silk pajamas phase than he is to his prime.

And fuck all that "only getting up for big fights" jazz. This was a $50 PPV, and he's supposedly on the short list of fighters who always give you your money's worth.

I don't know, Cliff's article earlier in the week was/is dead on, even if for different reasons - Manny's getting passes that no other fighter in the sport (including and especially Floyd) is afforded

Don't co-sign with the insult, but agree with everything else.

Jesus....you too? Wouldn't have expected that.

Plenty of other fighters in history don't always get up for big fights and have shown some inconsistency (much MORE than Manny, I might add)...

But Manny can't because it's a $50 PPV? When has that mattered to a fighter, really?

He's had a tumultuous 2007, no doubt. But in the ring...he's fought Solis and Barrera again. :dunno:

It's funny, because when Pac lost to Morales, it was because of the cut and his first fight at 130 and being too muscled....

When he beat Morales in the rematches, it wasn't because of what happened in Morales' camp (which had ALOT of issues) and because Morales was older and had even less left - but because Manny was finally focused and grown into 130 and could use the gloves he wanted.

    That was in 2006.

Manny getting "passes" goes both ways....now people are being unduly harsh because one fight or two didn't go exactly like the rest.

Add to that....Manny has always showed some vulnerabilities - it seems people have forgotten them.

Barrera was fighting to expose and capitalize on those....it's all he could do. So they will show.

It's also good to remember that since coming to 130, all his top-level fights have been against guys on the downside of their careers.

I hear everything you guys are saying about where he is at in his life and career. I get it. I can agree.

But I can't help thinking it's going way overboard....and yes, when he fights someone that has a legit chance/threat - I do believe he will be at his absolute best.

    Peace.

That's all I'm saying. We'll find out for real soon enough.

But just remember - if he IS fighting that kind of opponent...it likely will not be a one-sided domination!

With Evander Holyfield, James Toney, Michael Moorer, Corrie Sanders, Larry Donald, Tony Tubbs, Ray Mercer, Bruce Seldon and Marion Wilson still active, you survey the boxing scene and say that 28-year-old Manny Pacquiao has to retire?!?!?!?!

Jake, you're getting way in front in cumulative shot outs but, yes, Manny is getting free passes. Floyd got deservedly shit on for his wanky 03-05 comp and Manny has now fought two dead guys and a fringe featherweight. I don't care if the marquee read "Morales" and "Barrera." This fight tonight was the one of the worst big name rematch thefts since Leonard-Duran III. I think it's retarded to say Manny should retire, but the very real possibility exists that he's on the other side of his prime. Not shocking. He may be a U.S. presence for only a few years but he's already had a pretty deep career.

It's more of the same coming too because JMM is way slowed down as well and he and Manny II is nothing to get fired up for.

some of you guys are clowns. Even though I like clowning Manny when people overrate him. I can easly say he is one the few good things about the sport.

No he hasn't lost his passion for boxing. he has distractions but he still gives you your money's worth.

Barrera fighting in survival mode is what kept him from being Kod.

Manny tried pressing the action for 12 rounds.

If you expect Manny to destroy every single fighter on every single night than you are overrating him to ridiculous degree. Nobody can be that spectacular.

Tonight was not his fault though. It was Barrera and he reminded me of Roy after the third Tarver fight being happy to see the 12th round.

Manny - JMM 2 will be so much better.

Manny's been doing this for a long time. I've had issues with his quality of opposition for a long time. It's really pisses me off - especially considering the amount of hate other fighters of his stature get. I wrote about it a couple months ago and got absolutely slammed with emails telling me I was an idiot. Look, the guy is one of the best in the world but if you look at his record since he drew with Marquez, it's not that hot...at all.

    I beg to differ...
Most guys on meesage boards called for Roy Jones to pack it in even though he was skunking everyone he was fighting in his division as well... This is nothing new....

When I saw this post I thought that Pacquiao had lost the fight. Why should he retire after a clean UD over Barrera? Are you guys on something?
