not sure what to think of this dude after watching the corley fight. he complained all night and fought like a bitch rabbit punching and hitting during the break throughout. he got cut in round 3 from what appeared to be from a punch but claimed that he was butted. his aggression and body punches pretty much won him this fight, but he really looked like he was done after round 9. he was lucky that corley is a terrible finisher. i know corley's been on a 2 fight winning streak or so, but this guy hasn't been a contender since his loss to miguel cotto several years back. i'm sure maidana took this fight lightly, but he looked very sloppy and one-dimensional. khan and his handlers will fight maidana now. by the way, i had it 6 rounds a piece w/ maidana winning 114-113 due to a knockdown from round 7. Argentinian commentators had corley winning by a point going into the 12th. they had it a draw after the final round.
Maidana fought a slick fleet footed cagey southpaw vet who knows every trick in the book and did look bad. Best motivator ever. Khan watched the fight and is now chomping at the bit. Poor Amir. I wish him all the best in his recovery.
That's certainly one way to look at it. Witter, who was a fast southpaw in his prime should have been able to do so much better with Corley, and won a close decision. Nobody has really had an easy night with Corley.
Indeed. Corley is a bit of an odd duck. Puts on the worst showing at times against those you would not expect him to lose to and the best showing against those you would expect him to lose to. A head thing I guess. He just cant get up for for guys like Alfaro and Esalas.
Maidana didn't look good, but I still believe he is. I agree that he looked one-dimensional. In fact, he is one of the few top-line fighters who I really believe would be better with a better trainer. More often than not, I think a fighter makes the trainer which is why so many fighters excel with so many different trainers. Maidana's footwork sucks. His punch selection could use more variety. His stamina was shit. But, he still won clearly. Imo, it was more of an 8-4 type fight. Corley did come to fight. I expected Maidana to get rid of him easily. It looked like Maidana thought the same thing. Corley fought dirty as hell. Maidana responded with dirty tactics. Corley head-butted like a mofo and I thought it was clearly a headbutt that cut Maidana. I thought replays clearly showed this? Anyway, I think it is dangerous to judge Maidana off of this one fight. He has a lot of fights to refer to and one medicore performance is what it is.
witter was always shit...how many times shall we revisit this? wasn't it earlier this year when Corley was KTFO on Showbox?
Witter dropped a decision against Bradley and won a decision over Corley. Corley wasn't able to do his usual shite with Witter. I never liked Witter but it is undeniably the case that guys like Maidana would always be given more difficulty by Corley than Witter would.
Perhaps Maidana looked awful enough for Golden Boy to grow the stones to finally make Khoward fight him.
This may be true and all, but Madiana does indeed suck. I think people are remembering his fight with Ortiz and judging him off of that too much, but even his fight prior to Corley I thought he looked like shit. It's obvious a fight with him and Khan is a tossup only because Khan is chinny and Madiana hits like a mule, but you have to think Khan will box his ears off while he lasts. But the thread is fitting, Madiana - not very good. This probably should have been a bandwagon thread on that opinion because I would have signed up.
I want to see more of Maidana. I wonder what in the fuck ever happened to Torres, and hope that Maidana, just as Torres could have, can break Khan's orbital bone.
I think Torres probably hits harder than Maidana, at least upstairs. Maidana probably hits harder to the body.
