Dunno man, he looked like a lost puppy in there tonight. I worry about his stability outside of the ring and in that corner. Did you see their reaction when he said he couldn't see?

He needs a fresh start, IMO.

Yeah. Around the 10th I think it almost looked like Loew had to talk him out of quitting.

I think he peaked in the Taylor fights. Hop exposed the book on him, and Martinez did it again tonight.

Yeah, the thing with the Hops fight is you always had to wonder if it was the weight. Even though Hops boxed the shit out of him, you couldnt be sure how much a role his size played.

Tonight, Martinez pulled a similar trick, yet was easily the smaller man. The book is out, sold a million and they're going to be running third and fourth editions ASAP.

LOL I know your happy. You've talked for years at how basic Kelly is.

I once liked him. I still dont dislike him per say, but he's pretty limited vs an elite skilled guy.

Just FURTHER proves how sloppy, and overhyped Taylor was. Kelly will always have a spot in my heart for stopping the Taylor hype train.

I suspect that Taylor is the LAST top fighter Pavlik will ever beat.

kelly's always gonna have some good pop, but unless he can reinvent himself offensively, he's going to struggle against elite fighters.

However, he IS with TR though and Arum isn't stupid enough to throw him into fights like this again soon, unless he wants to cash him out.

Which is why I think Arum will feed the Chavez Jr-Duddy winner to him.

Pav might be fucked though, cause its possible he wont even make be able to make 160 anymore.

Yeah, I just made a similar comment over on NoBS. 168 might be on for him...although Im not sure he's up for it. He can compete with the best @ 168, but I cant see him being "the man" there like he was @ 160.

For the life of me I cant see hows he competitive with Bute, Ward, or Dirrell. In those guys we're talking about fighters who are FASTER then Martinez, only with power and much bigger.

I didnt think he had a chance with those guys even BEFORE tonight.

I think he can compete with them, because he's every bit as big and he's still a good fighter who can throw a jab.

Ward and Dirrell are trouble and you'd favour them both over Pavlik...but those guys have to show that they can beat a few different styles. Ward shut down Kessler's jab, but Mikkel has a whole heap of bitch in him, IMO.

I'd like to see it anyway.

Regardless of what Kessler has in him.... he's a better fighter then Pavlik, and will prove so next week vs Froch.

Oh, I dont know that beating Froch proves much in regards to Pavlik.

About all those two have in common is Jermain Taylor.

Ive said for years that I feel Kessler would stop Pavlik. The style matchup would greatly favor Mikkel.

Maybe, maybe. I'd have favoured Kessler big a year ago. My opinion on Mikkel has changed drastically since then.

They've both prob peaked though. Woulda been a better matchup in 07 when both were at thier absolute primes.

True. So Taylor is the first, and only top fighter Pav will ever beat.

Pavlik is the stereotypical dumb slow white fighter....he only got a break because he is American. At a time that the Yanks were on the beginning of a prolonged downward trend, they needed all the fighters they could get. That and that BULLSHIT Younsgtown/Rust Belt BS angle HBO were pushing.....when you look at Pavliks resume, it is dotted with the remains of smaller men, other peoples left overs, and perhaps the least impressive 160lb Champ since William Joppy. He was flat-out embarrassed by Hopkins and now by a 154lbr from Argie-Land....a part of the world not known for producing fast, left handed slicksters.

160 is fucked...it is fucked far more than heavyweight is.

Much as I hated Sloppy Joe, lucky for Kelly that fight never came to pass. I favored Calz even back then, but gosh that fight woulda been a mismatch.

I said as much at the time and not a soul believed me. Calzaghe would have beaten Pavlik senseless. A complete style mismatch.

I believed you.........Pavlik is a mummy with fragile skin and an absolutely rubbish corner, and perhaps most alarmingly of all..........a tee-total failure to master the basics of his purported style, viz. picking punches, cutting the ring off, slipping and landing power-shots.

I believe I strongly favored Joe even then. And that was at the time when I was a Pav fan.

Well actually Martinez is your typical slippery wop, the meditteraneans actually produce fairly quick fighters compared to the rest of Europe, Calzaghe, Bute, Moorlignagi,.. collectively they're quicker than your average celtic, slav or Nord,... Celtics ofcourse,... appear to be THE WEAKEST!!!,.. :crafty::stir: ...... :bangh: stop it "Irish ropes" .. just stop it! for god sakes give Ireland thier dignity!!!

Celtic Iron is a bit brittle, but when reared on Yankee Steak, it turns into a more tensile weapon, by which all other steels are graded.

Pavlik looked hopeless in there. Martinez was making Kelly look like a bobblehead after the 9th round. I think it is a combination of Kelly being a very basic fighter to begin with, and Bernard stealing his soul.

Can anyone just give Martinez some credit? All that I read here is how limited Pavlik is. Before the fight few gave Martinez a chance. Now after he put a masterful performance and won the middleweight title few thought he could pull it off, now is just lame excuses at how overrated Pavlik is. Martinez was robbed TWICE against Cintron and Williams. He deserves big props for beating a fighter better than those two that he already beat, but got screw in the decisions.

He's not what you think he is Panchita,..:crafty: and I disguise that behind a multitude of contexts.
