Hatton probably cagefights his way to a split decision... horrible, like 99% of his fights... holding onto Lucas's left arm, slapping him in the kidneys, humping him in order to keep him from letting his hands go Not sure Matthysssssse is skilled enough to overcome that with counterpunching, it doesn't look like it to me
Matthysse' power is legit. I think he could beat Hatton inside the distance, but Hatton would be favourite.
I think Matthysse's a bad style matchup for Hatton. For anybody thinking Hatton could grapple his way to a win, consider this: Lucas isn't a crude sloth like Tackie, and Urango, and isn't past his prime like Tszyu and Castillo were. He wouldn't have much of a problem finding Hatton as a target, and although Hatton has the faster hands between the two, Matthysse's edge in firepower and chin I believe would be the difference. I'd pick Hatton to beat Garcia, Rios, Alvarado, and Provo, but I think Lucas would just be all wrong for him. Matthysse by late KO.
IMO a prime Hatton has a pretty solid chin @ 140. Does Matthysse really hit that hard? I think Ricky takes this one by a close but clear decision.
Yes. He does. Especially for someone as hittable as Hatton. Ricky had a solid chin in his prime, but it was never anything great. I remember old man Vince Philips wobbling him with an uppercut. Matthysse has enough pop to stop even a prime Hatton. Does it mean Matthysse's an overall better fighter? Perhaps not, but the styles matchup for Hatton is just all wrong here.
Indeed. One of the most powerful hitters we've seen at 140. Granted, it's not a division that has seen a great deal of devestating punchers, so Matthysse is def in the mix. You got guys like Tszyu, Cervantes, and that scrub Bailey, but can't think of too many other great punchers there's been at 140.
If Hatton's chin was so good, he wouldn't have been such a grappler. He was a damn good fighter, not saying he wasn't. But with his style, grappling is basically his only means of beating Lucas. In a straight up, toe-to-toe shoot out, I have little doubt Hatton gets the stretched eventually.
X is so far up Lucas' cornhole that he can barely see the light of the other side. And Hatton probably wins this because he was better than Matthysse. MTF
Hatton was an eyesore, especially against anyone remotely threatening. He'd do all sorts of undignified, homosexual things to Matthysse
Hattons first form of defence was his face. I just don't see matthysse stopping Ricky and for that reason, hatton UD
Tszyu was well past his best against Hatton but was far from "shot" and a favorite going in. He was also a more precise hitter than Matthyse. Hatton just didn't give him room to breathe. Could he do the same to Lucas? I don't see why not but we haven't seen the last of him. Certainly open to change my mind on this one. For now i'll go with Ricky.
The whole "Old, shot Tszyu" thing is fucking hilarious, and down to either Tszyu groupies or Hatton haters. He looked as good as ever destroying Sharmba Mitchell in his previous fight, not even close to being shot.
He certainly wasn't shot, and i don't think anybody has really said that in this thread. He simply just got beat up and didn't want any more. Kind of reminds of Hamed. Got an ass whipping and retired. (yes i'm aware Naz fought another time much later) Neither guy was at their absolute peak, but far far from 'shot'. If Hamed beat Barrera or Hatton beat Tszyu does anybody seriously think it would have been their last fight? Because they both retired, they made it appear they were just finished as fighters. The truth is both got their hearts taken from them.
GIve me mathysse. Hatton was a good fighter, but he didn't have the best of chins, and he usually struggles against powerfull guys. Hatton would probably be winning the fight, but in the middle to late rounds he's getting caught with something big, and that's the end of him.
Quite possibly, but on the flip side Hatton's relentless pressure and body attack would take away a good portion of Matthyse's power by the time it got to the latter rounds.(if it did get there)
