    From fightnews:

Upon his arrival in Managua, Nicaragua, former two-division world champion Ricardo Mayorga announced that he has signed a contract to challenge WBA super welterweight world champion Miguel Cotto, with the bout possibly landing in Las Vegas on March 12. Mayorga has also been mentioned as a possible challenger for WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm on February 19 in Stuttgart, Germany. It was the first time Mayorga has been in his native country in nearly four years due to legal problems. “I dreamed for many months of returning to my country. I am very happy to return to Nicaragua, and I thank God, my mother, but most of all President Daniel Ortega for having supported me,â€￾ said the 37-year-old Mayorga, who in his first bout in over two years stopped Michael Walker in round nine Friday night in Miami.

Yep, looked like shit early (and was grossly out of shape, to boot) but eventually took care of business.

I have to admit, I have zero interest in this fight, especially with a $45 price tag

Yeah, Mayorga makes some sense for Top Rank if they're going to pay per view this card, which is what Arum's saying...but I can't say I have much personal interest in it.

He'll almost certainly get beaten up by either so may as well make more money with Cotto.

Doesn't Angulo still have some immigration issues to work through?

I don't either, especially as a headliner. This is the kind of fight that should be on an undercard or at least as part of a double header.

Prime for Prime Mayorga eventually stops Cotto, but now Cotto stops him in the middle rounds.

Maybe but i'm not so sure about that. Cotto is an excellent body puncher and also fights within a range that takes a lot away from Mayorga's clubbing power shots.

Go away Mayorga your stupid act bores me. He will talk all kinds of shit to Cotto and then as soon as he gets KTFO he will start sucking his dick.

A peak Mayorga would be VERY live vs. Cotto.

What are we talking about, early 2000's welterweight version Mayorga vs. a '06/'07 Cotto?

That would've been a fun fight.

A peak mayorga does terrible against boxers. Cotto would have ran circles around him and put him down with body shots. It would be a fun fight for about 4 rounds.

The Cotto that fought mosley would batter Mayorga. Even the Cotto right now would batter Mayorga. Cotto's d isnt the best in the world but against Mayorga? He would be fine.

    I'm talking about tactics.

You said Cotto would run circles around him...when, before deciding he wouldn't (or couldn't) stand with Mosley for 12 full rounds, did he box like that?

Bad career move for Cotto. This like when Oscar fought a shot Yori Boy Campas: he will be heavily criticized for taking this pointless opponent. And IF Mayorga lands a crazy haymaker that knocks Cotto out...well, that'll be the end of the big paydays for Cotto, while Mayorga will be defeated in his next bout.

How can you compare it DLH-Campas and then say "IF Mayorga lands a crazy haymaker"...there was no chance of Campas beating DLH, potion or not.

Mayorga's stamina is horrible. Also, Cotto was notorious for body punching that would leave Mayorga hunched over the whole night.

I'm actually more curious about your classification of Cotto as a boxer who "would have ran circles around Mayorga" than I am of your prediction.

What is there to be curious of? Cotto is a good technical boxer that would have make mayorga look silly. Similar to how DLH made Mayorga look silly. Cotto is a boxer. Good one. Mayorga is a slugger.

In cotto's prime i would they had some similarities. But they dont have to have similar styles in order for the fight to be similar. By similar i mean the beating Mayorga would take.

Not really, Mayorga looked like crap in his last fight. Cotto should be able to stop him withing 6 rounds or less.
