Anybody else watch this on YouTube? Jeff Mayweather walk around the Mayweather Boxing Club and asks various fighters and trainers their opinions of Mythical Matchups, and boxing topics in general. Here's their opinions on a Pryor vs Pac matchup. Love how Floyd Senior didn't hesitate at all. "Mannnn, Aaron Pryor woulda beaten the Hell outta Pacquiao."
I agree with Mustard. Pryor is absurdly overrated, a bit like Tszyu. He beat a past prime super featherweight, that's his only legit win. He was a force to be reckoned in his own way but ultimately wild and sloppy with no great wins. He is basically the 80's Shawn Porter. Pacquiao would have tattooed the fuck out of him, no doubt in my mind. So would Floyd.
Lol past prime super featherweight who was the lightweight champion of the world... I mean c'mon... that's some Sly reasoning Pryor was awesome, just had a horrible drug problem
Obviously I was exaggerating for comic effect, he would smash Shawn Porter - but the way he gets talked about is insane, as if he was this unbeatable superhero. I see a guy who is ferocious but pretty fucking wild and sloppy, and ripe for the pickings against a fast sharpshooter like Pacquiao or Floyd.
For one, Pryor haters will have you believing that Alexis was 42 years old and looking shot going against Pryor. In reality, Arguello was 30, looked like a million bucks in his previous fight against Rooney, and was the betting FAVORITE over Pryor. Gotta love revisionist history. Secondly, Aaron's rolling in his grave right now having been compared to that scruby running back Porter.
Arguello was excellent, you don't need to remind me. But you said it - lightweight. When did he ever prove to be a legit 140 pounder? Sometimes one weight (or half a weight) can make all the difference. And also, I know he was only 30 which is prime by today's standards, but as you know people generally did not age as well back then, for whatever reason. You know full well that 140 pound, 30 year old Arguello was not close to being the force he was. Pryor was good, awesome or great? Not imo, especially given the fact he didn't beat one prime, elite 140 pounder.
I knew I would get this reaction Pryor is high on the list here on fightbeat for most overrated fighter for sure.
There's just no way, I don't believe that for a second. Pacquiao is better in almost every way. What advantages do you think Pryor even has?
I have to agree, I love Pryor but he isn't giving Pacquiao some hellacious beatdown, it would be a hell of a fight.
For the record, I don't think 09 Pac is an easy fight for Pryor at all. But I do think The Hawk pulls away late, and circa 10-11 Manny is getting beaten up. I could see Pac lasting the distance in a 12, but in a 15 rounder I'm pretty sure The Hawk gets a stoppage.
Pryor would be on the mix, and Pac would be on the juice, so we have a level playing field in this one.
Just never knew what you were gonna with that guy during that 13 year stretch where he actually lost a fight once
Pryor beats the hell outta Pacquiao. Wilfred Benitez would have schooled him. Whitaker schools him too. Pac beats Tszyu. I would give Pac the edge over Crawford but it's not guaranteed he beats him either.
Pryor Only Moved Up to ‘40 Because he Couldn’t Get Fights at ‘35... There’s RING Magazine Rankings from Back Then Listing Pryor in BOTH Divisions... REED
Only time Pryor gets really overrated is when guys claim he could have moved up to 147 and beaten Leonard/Hearns. And yes, I have heard some Pryor groupies claim this. Both Leonard and Hearns would have destroyed Aaron.
