Honestly, style wise Cotto still is the tougher matchup for Floyd.

Margarito obviously deserves the fight more but I think Floyd would still school him. Floyd would have no problem making it a boring fight to get the W.

Like i said in the 'Props to All' thread, this fight proves that Margarito is and always was the most dangerous fight out there for Floyd.

There's no way he'd be able to keep Margarito off him. Those shoulder rolls would work so well:notallthere:

I appreciate Floyd for being the best talent and most skilled fighter for many years, but 'legends' of boxing take the biggest challenges available to them.

And that will always be held against him by anyone who isn't a blind nuthugger.

    Sadly i agree.

I think Floyd would be able to pick off Margarito's wide shots and win a decision.

But fights aren't won on paper.

    Margarito doesn't care about scorecards.

That mentality cost him against Williams, but he hurt him late like he hurts almost everybody.

Most fighters don't want 12 rounds of AM.

IMO after this....there is NO WAY IN HELL MAYWEATHER signs to fight MARGARITO......the ring would have to be 30feet x 30..

    Yep.

Win or lose, Margarito lets you know you've been in a war.

    Mayweather doesn't want that knowlegde.

It's true, but i truly believe something was off for Margarito in that fight. It was his worst performance in years, and he still only just lost.

Based on the way he has responded in his last 3 fights, i think he's learnt a fair bit about keeping a solid pace throughout and not giving up rounds. It cost him against Santos as well (even though i thought he won, it was close, had it gone 12 Marga would have got him).

If Floyd doesn't come back, Williams is the fight i want him to take. I think he'll destroy him next time around. There's no reason for a rematch with Cotto right now, the beating he took was vicious and there's no way he'd be able to do anything differently. Let him come back and get a few W's first.

I think Margarito overwhelms Floyd, he just wouldnt respect him and eat him up with pressure

PBF still needs to fight both guys (& Williams) if he want's to have a chance @ greatness.
Unfortunately now, if PBF beats Margarito, some will think that automatically means he'd beat Cotto, & that because Marg beat Cotto PBF doesn't need to fight Cotto at all. (which he won't)

Cotto was always over-rated p4p, and as a welterweight.

Still, Mayweather didn't really want to fight him.

That's why Floyd retired. Nothing he would do would be good enough and he'd be fighting forever. There always is someone to fight. If he turns down another 20 million payday against DLH and another 10-15 against Hatton again, he won't be fighting any time soon.

DLH would've been tougher with SR. in his corner, and he still onley won 7-5 on my scorecard.

    Best retire when he did.

I think Floyd schools him too. Margs punches too wide and Floyd knows how to stand right in front of guys like that and make them miss while also protecting his body. I don't think he would even have to run that much and to be honest Floyd isn't the runner that most people portray him as.

I disagree. I think Cotto has looked better as a welter than at 140. Also his competition went up in calibre with the move to 147.

He needed breathers against Mosley. That's all I needed to know about him.

I still think Mayweather would win a wide Dec against Margarito. He's a specialist at avoiding punishment and getting shots in between wide shots. BTW, I'm disapointed Cotto lost, but at the same time I'm happy for Margarito, a stand up guy, a true fighter and a guy that paid his dues to get where he is right now. Congrats to him!

Mayweather couldn't KO Margarito in 20 rounds.

I'm not sure if he "needed" them but he was able to take them anyway. Shane wasn't taking advantage.

That was also the best opponent by far he had faced in his career.

I'm not saying you are way off base or anything but look at things in context.

Mayweather schools him. Margarito is still too slow and punches too wide. I think this would be easy for Floyd.

You know, at some point, this stupid notion has got to be put to rest. You'd think tonight would do it but instead we still see these kind of posts regarding Margarito.

Why, was Margarito throwing straight accurate shots unlike his normal self? Floyd is a defensive specialist and Cotto isn't the best boxer in the world. What Cotto needed tonight was Papa Trinidad wrapping his hands.

Or Shane in the ring instead of Margarito. You choose.

That's right, either of those scenarios works for Cotto, although I have to think Shane probably makes it closer this time if not outright wins it if he is more assertive early.

Fraud will never, EVER, EVER, EVER, fight Margarito, he saw things in Margarito that frightenned him even before 2006,..

Fraud obviously knows his boxing, he knows the right kind've opponents and the wrong ones, :crafty: -Margarito is a wrong one, Fraud knows that even if he could run, twist his back, and jam his elbow into Margarito's eye in panick,..that not only will it be an excrutiatingly sore night out for him, but he'll be made to look like a complete and utter bitch over 12 rounds, this, and the more critical fact that Margarito will constantly bring to focus all of his illegal impliments, and if the referee takes any of those away from him, as Drakulich did in Fraud's first fight with Castillo,..he would turn to JELLY.....and lose every remaining round, he knows this,.. it's waaaayyy too much risk for someone who would explode with some serious psychological damage if he lost a fight :crafty:. Fuck Fraud.
