Mayweather: "Mosley Can't Talk Money With Me"

    By Mark Vester

It appears that undefeated WBC junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is going to stay retired until the right amount of money comes along to change his mind. There is a lot of momentum in the boxing public for a showdown between Mayweather, 30, and former three-time division champ "Sugar" Shane Mosley.

Mayweather told BoxingScene's Bill Emes that he would fight Mosley if the money is right. But, Mayweather has a problem giving Mosley a sizable share of the overall pot of money and plans to stand by his position based on the money the two fighters have made throughout their careers.

“Here's a guy. You can take all of Shane Mosley's biggest fights. As a matter of fact, we take every fight in Shane Mosley's career. What I made in one night with Oscar, Shane Mosley hasn't made in his whole career,” Mayweather said. “And he fought Oscar twice and he fought Vargas twice. You take his two fights with Vargas, you take his two fights with Oscar and you take his two fights with Winky Wright and his two fights with Vernon Forrest and he still didn't make more than what I made in one night. I still got money coming in from the Oscar fight.”

“Like I said before, Mayweather is a cash cow. Whatever I touch don't turn into gold, it turns into platinum. It's money Mayweather. If the price is right, we can make it happen.”

Mayweather admits that Oscar De La Hoya is the only man that can negotiate with him on the terms of a fight, but he will not even think about negotiating the terms of a fight with Mosley and other potential opponents.

“I set the plateau of the money and what I make. Listen, when I fight fighters I tell them what they get, they don't tell me what I get. They only person that can negotiate with me is Oscar De La Hoya because he's the type of fighter that's in that position,” Mayweather said. “But as far as Shane Mosley and guys like that, guys like that can't even negotiate, talk money with me. I tell those guys 'this is what I'm gonna give you.'

Mosley was one of De La Hoya’s sparring partners for the May 5 scrap with Mayweather, and Floyd did not miss his opportunity to take a shot at Mosley for volunteering his services.

“What do I look like? A guy like Mosley is on 24/7 being a sparring partner. C'mon man, I can't fight a sparring partner. He's a sparring partner. How are you gonna go out there and spar for free and then tell me you want to make the same type of money I'm making. And you haven't reigned undefeated; I've done it for a decade,” Mayweather said.

:bears: Hellsyeah' you tell em lil Floyd, I love this cat, he's BOX OFFICE to the core!.. p4p baby.

    what a fucking idiot.

funniest thing is , look em both up in 15 years - Mosley will be sending his kids to college, and vacationing in Vail - Mayweather'll be payin alimony to 5 chicks, and child-support to 6, and probably have a fight scheduled on FSN.

maybe my post ain't fair. but schtick or not, Mosley deserves more respect than PBF is givin him. just seems like such an ass-hole move to talk about everything but the fight when it comes to Mosley - it's obvious he's afraid to fight him.

    Mosley deserves 40/60.

If Floyd wants him to take far less, he's really getting himself out of a fight with anyone but DLH at this point, this coming from a big Floyd fan. However, if Mosley wants 50/50 with Floyd he's really pricing himself out of the fight.

Floyd has the right if any in the sport do, matterfact any athlete in any sport, thats on top, and for so many years has the right to have demands even if we dont agree with them at all...they have the right to play the money game that he is playing....I know Floyd isn't scared of Mosely, he isn't scared of any fighter including myself!!... he thinks that he can beat us all easily, from minimumweight to heavy, thats the ego that he has, and its the same with Ping Pong to 8-Ball pool, he feels he is the best at everything......I told him at the gym a week ago that I was taking his throne when he's ready to get out the chair, he laughed....I laughed sarcastically and seriously!!

How dare you, trip. You've never boxed a day in your life, stick to posting, leave the business to PBF, and if he does slip up, fuck it! he'll have hella street cred! .

:nono: Margarito is my tender crested sea-booby, if his scons don't taste the best on one particular occasion, in the country club infront of aspiring uncle tom's like Reed and most of Fraud's minions, then it doesn't mean I'm going to bust the flour container over me kneecap in a vitriolic kitchen ritual :nono: , I make vows for life :nono: , and with Eaner on patrol sporadically, I feel like a fucken spider, 8 eyes, 8 legs wrapped around him like a tortilla, 24 hours a day.:cheer:

:eeeek: Well actually, it started as an urge, a fantasy, this is something more serious, and a little personal, voluntarily having this avatar and signature is dirty, and it feels dirty,....but, there's a degree of enthralling stimulation, it's not like wearing women's clothing, but it is equally as perverse.

My respect was actually growing for Floyd after he “defeatedâ€￾ Oscar. I began to think it was all an act for the cameras. But then you read something like this and you realize that the guy is a bum, I don’t care how much cash 50 cent carries around for him or how many gold chains that leech carries for him. He is a classless IDIOT.

A lot of people on here discuss Floyd’s legacy and how he will be remembered, but fact of the matter is he doesn’t even care. For me, he will be remembered as the biggest waste of talent I have ever seen in any sport.

If he really believes he’s that good why not line up Mosley, Cotto, Hatton, and even Oscar again and prove it.

It's up to PBF as to whether he wants to great.
The fights are there. He just has to want greatness more than money & posturing...

Floyd's a fucking idiot. I love how he tries to ignore the fact that it is ODLH that made him that fucking money. Floyd isn't doing any better at attracting fans than any other big name black fighter out there including Mosley. It's too bad we won't get to see him get humbled with a loss because he bitched up and retired early thinking he's secured his legacy.

Still he does have a point about Shane not ever making a 8 figure purse when Shane superfuckingstupidly refused the 3rd fight with ODLH.

Actually, Floyd's kids are with the same woman. At least two of them are I'm pretty certain.

Floyd's biggest problem won't be the alimony, it'll be his retarded spending habits.

He made a lot of money but he spends foolishly as well.

Including the Judah fighht, at the time he'd made $10-$13 million and STILL had a $450,000 tax lien against his Judah purse.

There's no reason logical reason for that to have been the case.

I say fine, let him stay retired.

mosley has no leverage going into this fight. floyd doesnt even seem interested in this bout and if he did, mosley would probably get 30 percent or some shit. this fight won't happen.

I don't think there's much anger. Mostly, folks don't care about Floyd.

I'm sure the fight will happen. Truth be told, I wouldn't be surprised if Mosley didn't take the fight. It's not like he didn't stand on principle and walk away from money before. Mosley never put money over pride. Some see it as admirable, some see it as being foolish.

Mosley might not have much bargaining position, but Golden Boy certainly does. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who HBO favors in this scenario.

It would be interesting to see how much HBo would ante up for a "come back" fight for Floyd if it weren't Mosley since Oscar has taken himself out of the running.
