Mayweather's Race Baiting, Ignorance Comes Out Again

    by Mark Vester

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has once again displayed his race baiting antics and his ignorant way of thinking. During a recent video interview with CBS Sports, Mayweather made some wild race baiting comments about white fighters in the sport of boxing. According to Mayweather, there are no white fighters dominating in the sport of boxing and due to that lack of domination, they got together and started mixed martial arts. Those comments were a direct response to his thoughts on the UFC 103 pay-per-view, which goes head-to-head with his pay-per-view bout with Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19.

"In boxing, we know who's dominating. Black fighters and Hispanic fighters is dominating in this sport. And this is not a racial statement but there's no white fighters in boxing that's dominating, so they had to go to something else and start something new," Mayweather said.

Maybe Mayweather is blind as well. Boxing, at the moment, is being dominated by Hispanic, Asian and European fighters. There are very few American fighters - white, black or otherwise - making a serious play in the sport. A pure display of "what you should't say on the record" - especially when your company is the lead promoter of an upcoming pay-per-view with millions of dollars at stake - and you, and your promotional partner, Golden Boy Promotions, are out there trying to secure the most pay-per-view buys possible.

Not the first time Mayweather was race baiting and letting his mouth fly off the handle. Last year during an interview with David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press, Mayweather attacked HBO and their announce team - making comments that accused the network of having a racist agenda because they pushed and gave too much praise to Hispanic fighters, a white fighter like Kelly Pavlik and a Filipino in Manny Pacquiao - and claimed the network did not praise any black fighters.

"Even a guy like Jim Lampley, he praises Kelly Pavlik -- who has won some good fights, he beat Jermain Taylor twice, we have to give him credit for that -- but they talk about Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he's the second coming or they go crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I'm a black fighter," Mayweather said.

"Is it racial? Absolutely. They praise white fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters, they never praise. I've noticed it for a long time but I couldn't say anything because I had to do business with them. I'll still do business with them, but I'm done holding my tongue."

Pavlik is having trouble landing a date on HBO and the same network spent over $3 million for Chad Dawson to fight Antonio Tarver in a rematch. The network passed on a war between Tomasz Adamek and Glen Johnson. Does that make HBO racist against white fighters? If people thought like Mayweather, they would jump to those conclusions. HBO sure wasn't racist when Mayweather was paid millions to fight guys like Sharmba Mitchell, DeMarcus Corley, Phllip Ndou and a whole string of mismatched opponents.

No no no Mitchell. What he's saying is you don't understand. See Money Mayweather is undefeated. They praise other people but Mayweather has money. Who did that other guy beat? Mayweather beat Oscar De La Hoya. When Mayweather fights he brings in money. Some of those other guys do steroids. Mayweather is dominating. You don't know boxing. You see you don't know boxing because Money May is undefeated. Pacquiao lost. Mayweather doesn't cheat. He retired but he's on top. You don't know boxing, Mayweather has money and stuff paid for. He has lots of houses.

    Lol

The funniest part of all it is PBF lost to Jose Luis Castillo, at least to people who know how to score a fight. The fact that he went 24 rounds with Castillo should have tempered his arrogance. I long campaigned AGAINST Castillo. He is honestly one of the top 5 overrated fighters ever. Tito Trinidad was a bottom level world class fighter and Castillo was one below that. I actually saw a non-televised fight of his and he was getting dominated by a club fighter for 4 rounds until someone got in senor clubfighter's ear and told him that they paid him to loseand then he took a dive.

I wish Brian Kenny would do that when Floyd ludicrously claims Manny lost both fights to Marquez. If I were Kenny I would say ok. If we are doing that, you lost to Jose Luis Castillo who is currently the janitor in chief at Senor Bajas.

I don't know, I think some black fighters use the term "white" to refer to Americans only...which would explain why Mayweather can make the rightful assertion that no white (American) fighters are dominating and why Bernard Hopkins never let a "white boy" like Pavlik beat him...but had to look for referee assistance against the 'Italian Dragon' from Wales.

mayweather, with his small mind, was probably limiting it to "white" americans but nonetheless it was an incredibly stupid thing to say.

Maybe, but then he's probably feeling some pressure to sell tickets and ppv's...so I guess he's settled on using the UFC, white boxers, and anyone else to do it.

As far as Pavlik and HBO go, though, Lampley in particular brought on some of this criticism by trying to claim Pavlik was "the face of American boxing".

there's a lot of truth to what floyd says, imo. white fighters do get more support, and it's because most of the paying audience is white. and part of mma's popularity is due to the complexion of its poster boys - couture, liddell, ortiz, lesnar, fedor, cro-cop. and floyd should get at least a little respect for being brave enough to voice an unpopular opinion, even if you think that opinion is misguided.

this Mark Vester who wrote this article, on the other hand, is completely silly.

I don't know, but hell, the champs in the UFC are pretty diverse in terms of ethnic and national background anyway.

    The UFC Champions....

    Heavyweight: Brock Lesnar (White-USA)

    Light Heavyweight: Lyoto Machida (Brazilian\Japanese)

    Middleweight: Anderson Silva (Brazilian)

    Welterweight: Georges St. Pierre (White-Canada)

    Lightweight: B.J. Penn (White-Hawaiian)

Mayweather is an idiot. I guess white people never bought any PPV's with De La Hoya, Tyson, Holyfield, Chavez, Whitaker, Trinidad, Hopkins, Jones, etc, etc, etc.

lol there's plenty of cracker blood in the whole of north, central and south america,..no matter if they're classified as black or hispanic. :crafty: Incidentally, there's plenty of Arabic blood around the mediterranean too...:crafty: and a snippet of evolutionary Asian blood in Iceland, russia and all those other freezing northern countries, it seems that no corners of the world are spared from the expeditious small white dick.
