    Hoffman the better acting talent.

Douglas the much bigger movie star cause he had the charisma, lineage, and the lothario reputation.

Yeah, all these matchups I posted are pretty much skill vs charisma. What I wanted to know is, does the charisma overcome the skill in these cases, or vice versa.

Let's say you'd go to watch a movie with one of these in the leading role, without knowing anything else about the film. Which would you choose?

I'd easily choose Douglas, as he's been in better movies, and played more iconic roles.

Douglas basically single handedly made Wall Street a classic, as the movie itself is nothing spectacular. But people remember Gordon Gekko.

There isn't a whole lot memorable about Hoffman, although he was a very solid actor.

I agree 100%. Douglas has perhaps become bit underrated too, he has been superb in Kominsky method lately

Douglas is an effective actor cause he's always chosen roles which play to his strengths.

I can't think of film where he over-acted and tried to do too much.

In that way he's always been smart.

Hoffman? He was really good in Capote, but who in the world cares about that movie??

He was also very good in The Master, but really, Phoenix had the best performance in that movie.

    Hoffman more of an actor
Douglas more of a movie star

Douglas is an annoying “short-man” type and every other role he plays he’s some sex machine being obsessed over by this or that much younger actress ... the guy is completely in love with himself

There is absolutely no question - I'd much rather see a Michael Douglas movie over a fucking Philip Seymour Hoffman movie!

Hoffman was a good actor, but not enough of a generational talent to compensate for the fact that he was pretty uninteresting.

McDogg hates Michael Douglas, but the fact is he's never lacked for screen charisma and he's played more compelling characters than Hoffman.
