Oh boy. There are few things that piss me off more than the term "knowingly" in steroid discussions especially when you're popped for a banned substance used almost exclusively during weight cutting. 'Knowingly' my ass. Add King Mo to my list of life time bans.
The UFC has the power to make steroid use drop drastically. They need to impose a lifetime ban for participating in the UFC for PED users. I don't mind a 2 or 3 year ban for a first infraction. This mitigates false positives or 'unknowing' claims that are actually true, however unlikely or ridiculous, but still provides a severe penalty. Look, if your trainer dopes you, you can sue him. That will give you something to do during your 2-3 years off.
Oddly, I agree with every word of this. The only way you minimize use is by making the ban so significant that it becomes a potential career changer.
Testing should be random and ANY UFC fighter should be forced to make himself available for testing within a days notice at any time, whether they are training for a fight or not. The penalty for a failed drug test should be way longer than 6 months or a year that people usually get. I think a 2-3 year ban would be enough to scare a lot of guys into not doing it. That is potentially career ending. The one exception should be weed, they need to take that off the banned substance list, it's not helping anyone win a fight.
If I was a fighter and I really didn't knowingly take anything, every mother fucker on my team would be fired. I would be pissed off, and I would want to get to the bottom of it. I wouldn't just say "I didn't do it" and then hope people forget about it, like every fighter who gets popped does. And for those who say "It must have been in this over the counter supplements I was taking" Take that shit to the lab and have it tested. I have heard of fighters blaming supposedly legal supplements before, but never once have I heard of someone turning in the "supplement" that cause them to fail.
Man, it seems like there jave been quite a bit of failed tests lately. I thonk steroid use in MMA is a lot more prevalent than people think.
