I think it's a different but I'm gonna go out and say that the outcome does NOT change. Sergio Martinez is one of the most overrated fighters of this time. Sure he was talented. Fast, unorthodox, athletic, had some power. But for a "slick boxer", he sure got hit a lot. I say Cotto beats him anyway. Maybe not by stoppage. And it is more competitive. But he's still a better fighter than him. Cotto via competitive but clear UD. Bring it on Martinez lovers! :fightme:
I agree, I thought Martinez was overrated. Especially with Max Kellerman's "super-fighter" crap, and when people were ranking him in there with Floyd and Manny as the top 3 p4p fighters. A HUGE gap between those 2 and Sergio. I'm not sure who wins this though. Cotto is a better fighter IMO, Sergio has a side advantage, and it's not some gigantic edge that Cotto has in caliber where size would mean nothing.
A lot of that was the height and reach of Austin Trout, as well as his ability to keep maintain proper distance with his jab. Cotto won't have that problem with Sergio. He'll reach him with his punches and if Martinez gets too brave, he risks getting stopped.
Martinez by stoppage. That knee injury TOTALLY ruined Serg. The Martinez of the Pavlik fight would have stopped Cotto.
