Let's take the Cotto of the Gomez bout vs. the Quartey of Vince Phillips fight at WW. At 154 we'll take the Cotto of the Foreman fight vs. the Quartey of the fight before Phillips.
Yes, I think so. Was Gomez after Margarito? It was, wasn't it? Cotto has looked shaky ever since that first loss. The whole, "He's wrecked," thing has been a bit rich, but he definitely lost an edge after the late-rounds pummeling Margarito put him through. Either way, I think the Quartey jab is an immense challenge for Cotto. Quartey's biggest problem in this fight would be his at-times lazy output --- that spells trouble against a determined Cotto, & I can see a knockdown here in the Rican's favour at some point. Man alive, is Cotto going to be eating left hands for much of the night if Quartey is on-song, though. I think it's a competitive decision for Quartey, something like 7-4-1, with the cards narrowing after Cotto drops Quartey in the tenth with a signature bodyhook.
I dont think Cotto has enough pop to seriously dent a prime Ike. DLH & JL Lopez had much deadlier firepower than Cotto. Quartey would plain and simple be too strong for Cotto. Especially if we're talking the peak, 94-96 Ike. He'd walk Miggy down, and bust him up pretty badly. And although Ike had a history of fading, Cotto does moreso.
yup... Cotto probably looks brilliant at times early on, but that jab would bust him up and Quartey's heavy hands would take care of the rest
