Assuming both are prime, who wins?

Mayorga might be able to repeat what Margarito did, meaning walk through Cotto's punches and bomb him out eventually but even though Mayorga was better than Margarito, I pick Cotto here. The two reasons to that are that Mayorga's soft spot was the body and Cotto hit well downstairs and that Mayorga's punches were wider than Margarito's so Cotto would see them better and control the exchanges with his more compact punching.

    A very good, entertaining bout

Because of Mayorga's speed at 147, I see this fight unfolding a lot like Cotto/Torres. But Cotto wasn't the weakened fighter at 147 that he was at 140. He was smarter too, as he got on in his career. And as someone said, his shorter punches would mean he'd win most of the exchanges.

Cotto by decision. Body punching is key in this one.

I'd favor the 03 Mayorga to win by late TKO. And its not a matter of him being better, its just styles. Cotto does very well against techncial fighters...... not so well vs brawlers.

Mayorga was essentially a bigger, stronger, more durable, and just plain better version of Ricardo Torres. True Cotto was better at 147, as opposed to 140, but regardless.... Miguel is just a bit too stationary, and hittable to deal with a prime Mayorga.

me too. Cotto was always vulnerable..even in his prime (Corley bout for example) but Mayorga pre-tito seemed to have a very dependable chin.

I agree. I also favor Mayorga. I think Cotto is very live however including if he were able to work Ricardo's body. Good fight!

I like Cotto, I think he gets hurt, but I think he has the skillset necessary to outland Mayorga and tire him out with bodywork... Mayorga had a terrific chin, but he didnt like it to the body all that much

Cotto by close decision, surviving some scary moments in the first half of the bout

I don't see this one as all that close. Cotto is a much better boxer and can hold his own in the exchanges.
